For the CCSF 2013, I am currently considering creating a Creatures Community audiobook. An audiobook is simply a recording of text being read, and I personally thing it's an excellent idea. Once everyone has submitted their audiobook, I'll compile them all together as an album and then offer it for download at the CCSF 2013!
The CCSF deadline for this project is 31/10/2013. However, I will still accept submissions after this date, and will release the finished project sometime in the near future.
Current Participants:
* LoverIan
* Jessica
* DarbyDoo
* mlohse
* magpie-angel
* Layla
* Hawk
If you wish to participate there are a few things that need to be considered:
* Only read Creatures fan-fiction. If you're having trouble finding some, the Writings section is full of great stories to read! You could also try the fiction section here at the Creatures Wiki.
* Make sure you have the original author's permission before you read their work. Feel free to read any of my fan-fiction, though, as I give permission. Also, make sure you state the fan-fiction's title and its author at the beginning of your audiobook, so I know what you are actually reading!
* You don't have to read a whole novel - simply picking out one chapter is perfectly fine!
* Use a good-quality microphone to record your voice. It doesn't if it records in stereo or mono format, and any background noise/hissing I can remove later in an audio editing program.
* Speak clearly - I can't stress this enough! Maintain a good posture whilst you read, and try to avoid speaking too close to the microphone. Also try to speak at a constant pace - not too fast or too slow. I also recommend reading in a quiet place away from loud background noise.
* Please only read your audiobook in English.
To submit your audiobook, send it as an e-mail attachment. PM me if you want my e-mail. If anyone has any further questions please let me know!

I would love to take part in this!
While I don't do voice acting, whenever I read out loud to children, they love it. So I think it means I should join in hehe! Plus, it is one of the possible ways to contribute this year To CCSF 2013!
I guess you could say this post will serve as my master post! I'll try to also load my recordings to my tindeck, when I finally get some recordings done.
I'll ave to get the permissions of course, but these are the ones I plan on doing:
The Cookie Ettin Story by Officer 1BDl
Bug's Temple by Bug
The Draconian Norns by Bug
The Poodle Ettin Story by Tomtschek

That's great, LoverIan! What I had in mind though was each user reading one story each, but you should definitely record as many as you can. |

Awesome idea, C-Rex! I'll tentatively volunteer, only because I know my schedule can be crazy. Would it be acceptable for me to read the prologue to my story that still needs to be written? It was released during the CCSF 2011 and I think revisiting the prologue will get me motivated to, you know, actually continue writing it. Ha ha!

I think it will be interesting to hear what everyone sounds like with all the different accents. Great idea!

I might be able to write something more interesting than the prologue... Did a practice run the other day, and it's like reading a nature documentary where nothing happens. Ha ha!

How funny would it be to have a short movie of game play narrated by Randall (the Honey Badger guy)? I think I would die laughing!

New Question, will you be entering all our readings as one group, or will we need to submit entries to the CCSF email individually?
EDIT: Also, I'm using Audacity, is that alright?

I'm really tempted to try! I might read my old story on here that was never finished. Like..maybe just the first chapter.
Actually scratch that, I wonder if it'd be okay if I read the Lone Shee story or something? I know that's not fanfiction, but...

I recommend any other chapters of the Lone Shee story fans have made.
There is also still some good fanfiction out there!
We probably can't do the canon, as we'd need permission, which is p much impossible to get.

Hereby I give permission for my story "Sometime in 2021". I have corrected the errors I could find, but feel free to correct any errors if you find them. I might as well as continue writing my story. If I didn't have an accent, I would've participated, but I know my English has vastly improved over the years.

I haven't been able to start yet. I've decided to do "Through the Bonds of Friendship", because that one was so well received, but I can't figure out how to record it.

DarbyDoo: Audacity is a common program for recording and editing audio. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask them.

Man I used Audacity but then gave up because when you convert them to mp3s the files are gigantic, and trying to make them smaller was a nightmare and didn't go too well. I'll hope that regular old Windows sound recorder works.

How is everyone doing with their recordings? I actually forgot about this, but just finished mine up this morning! Just need to figure out how to convert or compress this .wav file that's gigantic!
If I can figure that out, are there any authors who would like their short stories/poems read but don't have anyone to read them? I'll volunteer to read a couple of pieces if I can figure out the file size issue!

Sorry to be a pain. Just trying to drum up another reminder for this project! I'm still willing to read any Creatures short stories/poems. If you're an author and would like something read for this CCSF project, feel free to PM me as soon as possible! Remember that submissions should be in within the next week, so I don't have too much time, but I'm still happy to contribute more than my one prologue I read.
I will also promise to do silly voices for stories with characters. So what are you waiting for? I'm happy to sound ridiculous and hilarious all in the name of Creatures! By "hilarious" I mean that everyone is welcome to laugh at my horrible attempts at humor!

I figured out how to do it with Bandicam: There is an option to record the soundtrack as a separate .wav file. Granted, this was a huge file, but it worked! I just discarded the video, which was basically just me scrolling through the text.

You guys are awesome; I can't wait to listen to everyone's recordings.
I'd love it so much if someone read The Parting and The Reunion by Donell Meadows. It's the first piece of Creatures fan fiction that I ever read and it still remains one of my most favourite stories. You never forget the tale of Benkey the Norn and his Shee, Master Ish, nor their touching relationship as they escape the rigid confines of the Shee Ark and try to adjust to another world.
It's also quite lengthy, so I'd more than understand if no one took me up on this request! Just putting the suggestion out there. If anything, it's certainly worth a read. If I wasn't lacking a microphone I'd definitely be reading it myself. |

Huh.... I hadn't looked at this topic before, because I almost never use audiobooks. After reading through it, I am almost tempted to try reading something for it. Would an excerpt from my survivor journal be okay? I was thinking the spooky story of her past could be the one I read, if I do read something for this. |
