Well, seeing as the CCSF is coming up soon, I was wondering what everybody was planning to do for it. :> I'll be releasing a genetic breed, which I will still only refer to as the TS Norns. ;D They're my biggest project ever, and have taken nearly 3/4 of a year to complete. Hopefully it'll be worth it~ So, what about you guys? |

well this is the first i've heard of it... when i came into the CC i was kinda excited for it, but the impression i get is that generally no one really cares that much? please tell me i'm wrong. if we're not the change we want to see if we're not the change, who will be? |

Well people don't play the games much anymore, and not that many people develop complex interesting stuff anymore. Some do. If there is another CCSF I'll be surprised. The impression I got from the last one was that everyone's hard work was pretty much wasted... with the exception of the "best" projects, like Terra Pluvialis, none of the minor projects, toys and such, that were submitted for it seem to have ever been released. Seems like a waste of time to me.  |

I don't know what was going on behind the scenes, but the end result was that only a handful of the projects submitted, such as Terra Pluvialis or the Various Creatures of Minimordor, were actually released. The rest of the agents, many of which were made specifically for the CCSF, never saw the light of day. And since there's a "rule" about not releasing an agent anywhere until it's been released on the CCSF page first, most of the entries simply dropped off the face of the earth. I happen to have two of those agents, and a scrap of code that would have been used for a third, but that's it. I'll probably put the two that I have up for download on BBW once I get them into .agent format. [/mentioning it] |

I guess this is as good a place as any to drop this. No one has any kind of real CCSF planned for this year that I have seen or heard- just vague discussions here and there that led to nothing. The previous organizers (not naming any names) have dropped the ball in previous years. What could have been something cool last year failed due to poor organization and planning. August is not too great a time anyway- lots of people in the US are just going back to school making it hard for them to participate. So malkin, GreenReaper, and I had an idea. We have plans for targeting a Christmas-time CCSF- call it the "12 Days of Albian Christmas" or something along those lines. We are ready and willing to be the organizers for this event, along with maintaining the site and coordinating contributions. This gives people several months to spread the word, get people interested, and come up with things to contribute (not to mention come up with a site that actually works! *cough*). Sound good? If so, we're likely to make an announcement soon when we come up with some more hard-and-fast plans (which will hopefully be soon). There will be an official contact address where you will be able to reach us. We are not aiming to be too exclusive, of course, since that strategy has failed in the past- but since we're going for a "Christmas" theme, it would make sense to maintain some of the fun secrecy and mystique of previous CCSFs, if only to make it more interesting and exciting. Wasn't our first CCSF themed "Christmas in July?" Anyway, all things considered I think this is a great idea. I'll wait for the official announcement before I post anything on Albian Archive (I had at least one person wondering what was up with the CCSF last week; can't remember who it was or if they post here). You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. If that leads to somewhere unexpected then perhaps you really needed to go there. -- Jim Adkins |

i'll probably be working more than ever, but i don't mind - my first christmas in the CC! err, i've never done any programming to speak of, so i may be a bit useless there, but both me and my girlfriend are Artists with a capital A, so we can be on tap for... art...ness.... if needed? if we're not the change we want to see if we're not the change, who will be? |

I vote Christmas. Seriously - CCSF has been going downhill for a while, and if there will be any this summer it will be more sad than last years.. Christmas, though? I'd be up for it! I'll be sure to make plenty for it. -Karias; a bit fruity and gone bananas in the wrong climate!  |

Yeah, I second a Christmas CCSF, definitely. It's a more festive time of year and most likely people will be more in the spirit of the whole thing.  I don't know what I'd contribute though - I don't think "Best of Ask Laura II" would be very original.  That's partly my problem, I'd love to contribute, but I struggle for ideas. |

I also put in a vote for the CCSF to be held sometime in winter. It sounds like it could be a Creatures Christmas we could never forget. Awesome. Glad to hear people like this idea. As for site setup and maintenance, I *think* we have that covered for now, but as I say, we'll set up some means for potential contributors and the like to drop us a line. One of the main advantages of the Christmas idea is that it gives everyone ages to plan (we wouldn't need stuff done until late November at the earliest). This time around we'll try to keep everything simple and straightforward, with all the downloads in one place and that sort of thing. And if someone feels like writing a song, sure, you can send us that too. I'll try to keep you guys posted when I can. Haha, awesome. Also, I should mention that although it would take place around Christmastime, there is no requirement for everything submitted to be Christmas related. As a matter of fact, I personally would like to keep Christmas-related submissions to a minimum- though if someone felt inclined to make five golden rings or a partridge in a pear tree we certainly would not deny them. I actually finished half of the twelve days of Albian Christmas. XD Heh... it might actually be something when it's finished. I'm trying to keep it at tune with the original song, of course. If I think it's good enough, I'd love to send it in for the CCSF 08. |
