Color mutations

I've been playing Creatures, mainly C3/DS, for over a year now. Yet to this day, I've never had one natural color mutation. My world, Myriad Reborn, is filled with colorful norns, but only because they are descended from norns I got through the Warp.

Am I just unlucky? Not patient enough? The majority of my worlds are reserved for purebred norns: Evergreen for Treehuggers, Amanita for Toxics, Pacifica for Bondis, etc. I haven't had one color mutation out of the lot of them. *Sigh*

My main question to the masses is, what is the frequency of random color mutations in your worlds? Are they rare, or frequent?

Quite rare, actually. Don't think I've had more than two or three randomly occuring ones, anyway.

i've gotten loads. in my WR world (where i just let them go for a while, the come back, mess a little, let let them go again) i got a gen 2 fallow/bengal that had dusty pink bengal parts and fallow parts that were coloured so they looked like she was old. and they only turned on when she was an adolescent.

i've gotten three of them with similar colours, all have fallow and bengal in them, all female. i named them Everlast, Endless and Lowenhart

(everlast is a company that makes clothes, i have a coat and some trackies made by them, and endless and lowenhart are companies that make wheel rims for cars. mmm... cars)

The trouble with colour mutations in my world was that they never got passed on to the next generation of norns. Most colour information in the genetics is specific for each age and gender, so it's easy to miss a coloured norn if you do wolfling or feral runs.
Personally I prefer the hue-type colour mutations. That's when the norn's entire fur shifts to a new palette, and red becomes greenish, green becomes blueish,... Much nicer than those fur colouring accidents.

I've gotten a few colour mutations, and then what I tend to do is selectively breed for them. In my Tribble world, I've had three different colours emerge (bright red, blue, and yellow) and three different appearance gene mutations (civet head, grendel arms, bruin arms). I'm up to about generation 70. If you use EasyGMS, part of its service is that it makes all the colour genes go to maximum mutability.

AquaShee: That would be pigment bleed genes. I love those. More and more of my genetic breeds are becoming focused on pigment bleed genes. They're fun to mess around with.

Malkin: The Tribble norns seem prone to mutation. My Tribble world has a few norns tinted red or blue. I haven't visited that world in a while, so I don't know of any others.

But it would make sense, since they reproduce so fast compared to other norns. Greater numbers more quickly=more mutations.

Although, the mutation rate of norns' color genes is higher than any other gene...but still I end up with bad mutations, like limps, rather than color mutations. Bleh.

Aw. :( Have you tried the norns from EasyGMS before?

EasyGMS? Nah, I prefer using the Genetics Kit. I still hold out for natural mutations, though. If I ever saw one I really liked, I'd make a genetic breed out of it. :)

I've been playing for years, and I've never seen a natural color mutation. o.O

NOT ONE.

I've seen a couple of very, very slight color mutations (i.e. so hard to see that you actually have to open up the information page on the norn and read it to see that the value have shifted from the base 128 or so) but not many of the caliber that the genetic breeds out there have. I guess they're very slight and evolve over generations and successive mutations to those specific genes. I managed to find a norn that appears to have the "NY Walker" gait gene (or something similar to it; it hasn't aged past infancy but it turns around completely after every step) before I had any norn noticeably change color.

I start getting them around 5/6/7th generation. And I start with the starter parents O_O

I've had blue baby norns, and a few red norns, but that's it. Do fast wolfing run mode for an hour or two.

It's way more common for Creatures to actually lose their color genes to mutation, rather than have the genes actually changed. :P

Therefore... I changed all my genomes ages ago so that the pigment and pigment bleed genes were in better order (one gene for each "growth" lifestage per color [sometimes per gender]) and weren't set to deletable anymore. XD

I once had a second generation norn be green her whole life, and one a deep indigo. But that was it. -__-

I let some grendels loose and forgot about them for about an hour. I came back and saw that there was a lightish red one at only the 3rd generation. That's the only natural color mutation I've ever gotten.

ps. I haven't played Monster Raannnrrrnnchhdoggy

I've rarely had natural color mutations. Then again, I rarely spend time trying to breed creatures.

Several times though, I've gotten unusual colors through messing with the gene splicer.

I've only ever had one naural colour mutation with non-third-party breeds... In c2, before learning how to download stuff, so still messing round with pixie norns, i got a bright aquamarine one. i trapped her and a male on the island with the horn thing for a few hours and got as mnay eggs as i could, but none of them had her cool colours D=
After getting unis and coloured unis, i got quite a lot of nice colours from them, but i dunno if that's because they had raised chances or what, but they were still nice.

i have LOADS of mutations of the colour variaty, what i do it i set up a world then add tribble norn, wait, pick out the coloured norns and send them to a new world. then i let them breed and pick out nice mutaions then kill off the un needed mutaions and fine tune the remaineing norns

.. I thought we were talking about "natural" color mutations.

Honestly, I've never had any. The only reason in which I get color is through messing around with the Genetics directly (files) or getting someone else's colored norn.

I do recall, though, natural mutations to often be dusty pink and in bengals most of the time.
