A Wolfling Run is a game where the Norns run wild and are not looked after or taught by the hand. Sometimes there are Wolfling competitions that see which Norns survive the longest. For a better idea, here's the Creatures Wiki article for you to read:

Norns run wild!
That might be an interesting "Norn Reality Show".
Aw well. I like wolfing runs. Never really get past the third generation before I'm interfearing. Either that or my computer crashes.
Do not upset the ugly worm, lest it be a dragon in disguise. (>oo)>

The best games to have wolfing runs in would be Creatures 1 or DS. I've done both, and if you do it in DS, you'll end up with quite a few eggs. Don't do it in C2, or all your creatures will die! |

the problem with C2 was a defective genome in the original game, IIRC. OHSS, walkbonking, things like that. You'd be better off with a feral run - load a selection of your favourite cobs first, put them in handy places, then hatch your norns & let them turn feral
