Sorry if this is a dumb question or has already been answered but I just got creatures 3 and I've been playing that, and today I started to play around with docking station and I just have some questions that I can't find answers to. First, what is the point of connecting the docking station when you make a new world to creatures 3 or whatever I don't understand it. Second, it seems that Docking station has almost all of the same rooms as creatures 3 so what is the point of having both? I've spent forever trying to look this stuff up and I can't find anything. Thanks so much! ![[nblush] [nblush]](/images/smilies/emot_blush.gif)

Docking Station has a newer engine than Creatures 3 and gives you more gameplay options. Docking the game with Creatures 3 allows you to play it with the Creatures 3 world and inject Creatures 3 agents into the game. Docking Station on it's own is also free, so it can also serve as a "demo" of sorts for Creatures 3. Also you cannot dock the game with Creatures 3 if you don't own Creatures 3. It used to have a Warp feature that allowed you to share Norns, exchange messages and hold conversations with other players, however the servers for that are down now. |

Hi MakaylaBrooke! Docking Station originally had a "warp" feature, allowing players to send creatures to each other over the internet, but it's been down for years now and essentially DS is just an expansion for C3. However, it does use an improved version of the C3 engine.

The main appeal of Docking Station is meant to be online connectivity. All of the online stuff is in Docking Station, so docking it to Creatures 3 lets you have DS's online capabilities in addition to all of C3's extra stuff.
That being said, the server's been dead for years now. To that end, the main appeal of a docked world for me personally is being able to us DS's version of the engine, which has a number of improvements over C3's, with the C3 metarooms.
At this point, it's really a matter of preference.

TBH, I vastly prefer DS to C3. It runs better and more smoothly on my machine, for one thing, the engine is superior to C3's, and because the machine I'm currently using is slow, it's much better for me to make an undocked DS world and inject third-party metarooms when I want to use those. The only time it makes sense for me to dock a world is when I actually want to use the C3 metarooms and content. And I've never found a particular reason to go play actual C3 when I can make docked DS games. Some people do prefer C3, though, so ultimately it's up to you.
Also, it's worth noting that there is a fan project to bring the Warp back that has made significant progress towards that goal. It's probable that some form of Warp will return in the future.
Conclude with killer catchphrase.

Aside being able to dock it with Creatures 3 (like, merging it)
You can play DS standalone, without C3 and only then you can see that it does not come with C3's rooms or breeds.
It just come with Docking Stations Capillata with the Norn Meso, the main hall,Agent injecor and the warp room as well one new single Norn breed - The Chichi Norns.
DS does not come with any Ettins and Grendels (you can get third party breeds, but also need the voice sounds of them, unless you have C3 - as you do)
DS also do not have a cemetery option (there is a C3 cemetery injectable toDS,but it require C3 to be installed)
Hope someone could make a DS one (Think I saw a project of that once..hmm)
You also do not need to worry about the scattered unlockables found in C3 - all that is allready unlocked in DS fro start and DS does not have any need of the bioenergy you recycle to use machinery in C3. C3 also have more flora&fauna (broken alltought) as well the splicer (But there is third party agents for splicing, like Papriko's Super splicer agent)
Also, you can play DS offline by downloading the
offline option here on CC (C1toDS also comes with a Offline option)
Since the warp is down, like everyone said - but as Lurhstaap said - there is a fan attempt to get the warp back again, You are ableto play DS like any other creatures game with the offline option. This way you are free to make worlds and play as normal. Also it's worth to note down some agents and metarooms can only be used by DS standalone Only (like C1toDS and C2toDS). However,Creaure breeds can be installed in C3 and DS alike.
Aside that - what everyone said is true - it's main goal was for internet purpose to connect with Creatures players and recive/send Creatures trough the warp and chat, message each other.
You can still import/export Creatures like all other creatures games.
