So, I have a general norn population that I've been playing with to get used to the game, I set up worlds for them and then import them into new ones when their previous world develops bugs or I just want to try out a new setup.
And today, while importing everyone, I found this guy.

I'm fairly certain those are grendel arms. As they'd just been exported and imported, I don't know who his parents are, but I checked the rest of the population and found nobody else who had similar features.
Does anyone have any idea how this happened? |

Either he was spliced together or it was a random mutation.

Actually they look kind of like Toxic Norn to me but I might be wrong. In any event this kind of thing can also happen when a creature has a body part from a breed you don't have installed.

The color schemes are very similar, but they are way too large for norn arms. I am pretty sure those are Banshee Grendel arms.

Ahh, yeah, I always forget that Banshee Grendels have that odd texture on their upper arms. That's what reminded me of the Toxics.

Splices generally have "spliced" as their origin rather than "born", correct? He'd have to have spliced parents, it looks like he hatched normally.
The missing breed issue might be it! I recently had to move some files around to fix an error where the Zoran sprites were showing up as part of the Draconians, and while I don't think I touched any files used by breeds that are in my gene pool, it's possible I made a mistake.
Either way, it doesn't seem like it's doing him any harm, and he does look pretty cool with those arms |

IIRC, Zorans and Draconians use the same breed slot. You'll have to use ReSlot to use both breeds at once. That's almost certainly the source of the problem. You will have the same issue with any breed that uses either Draconian or Zoran (whichever got borked).

I removed the Zorans because the Draconians are more my style, and I don't THINK either of them are in this gene pool, but it's possible something got confused and somebody from another world who'd been exported got imported with the general gene pool by mistake. Is there a way to organize exported creatures? |

Gotcha. Then yeah, it's likely you imported a part-Zoran or part-Draconian by mistake along with the others.
And yes, but only manually. You'll have to go into the exported folder, copy out the files, and put them into other folders. Which means they won't appear in the import window anymore, but they will at least be out of your way. Just move stuff you expect to actually import sometime soon back into the main folder.

I've found that mutations to grendel parts are pretty common. My money is on mutation.

Well, yes, they are. It is entirely possible it's just a mutation too. If you check the genome you can find out - if it specifies an actual grendel part, it was a mutation, but if it specifies Geat-Z, it was the Draconian/Zoran thing.

My guess would be a breed-slot-mutation too.
I once had a wolfing run of grendels, and when I came back, nearly all of them had norn heads. One guy must have mutated that feature and then spread it around XD |
