Wouldn't it be cool if foods had "taste" | |

I dunno, it's just something I've thought would be cool since I was a kid. Like, for instance, sweet sour and spicy. And genetics control exactly what flavors your creatures like. I imagine Norns generally liking sweet, ettins generally liking sour, and grendels generally liking spicy, but not completely set in stone. You could have a creature that hates the taste their species was originally supposed to like, because as the generations go on their preferences are able to change just like everything else about them does. |

Honestly I'd just be happy if they weren't deaf! They can respond to the Hand and each other talking but they don't hear any other sounds as far as I can tell even though there's a CA for it. There are definitely some sensory gaps.
With that said, I'm really excited for Grandroids in part for that very reason - he's making them much more detailed in their perceptive abilities. Just recently I read he's working on coding area-specific touch and pain perception, which is a huge improvement over Creatures. If he's getting that detailed this time around I imagine flavors and flavor preference will probably be included.

In theory, you could add flavours to food, but they would have to be chemicals. The presence of these chemicals in the creatures' bloodstream could then react and release reinforcement, but that might cause them to become addicted... |

I find using Boredom reduction works nicely as a gentle substitute for Reward. It's how I motivate hunting behavior in Abyss Dragons without producing a bunch of unwanted, excess, useless chasing and grabbing. Especially in those breeds which are more intelligent than average and given higher-than-usual Boredom drive to keep them moving, even a small drop in Boredom can be quite motivational without being as addictive as Reward tends to be. So if you wanted to reassign some unknownases as flavor chemicals you could use Boredom reduction instead of Reward to represent enjoyment.
The only problem is you'd be faced with a world full of edibles not coded to use your flavor chemicals, so you'd have to either create new food agents to replace the old ones that use the flavor chemicals, or else, if it's even possible, make some sort of patch that makes the old stuff 'flavor compliant'.

I do like the idea that calm balms kinda taste and have the consistency of apple sauce. Which is why norns kinda like calm balm.
That's just me though.
