| Genetics Kit 'Genome Too Large' Error | |

I've been getting this sometimes and it's becoming a problem. It usually happens when I tried to load the genome of an actual Norn, rather than a saved .gen file. It's an issue right now because my computer crashed before I'd saved a few Abyss edits. I have Norns with the latest version of the genome alive, so I could rescue it that way, except Genetics Kit claims it's too large to load. -.- Can't actually be true, so what's going on here?

Yes that is very annoying indeed - my work around with such genefile is to to load the them into another genetic editor (GeneLab)

The downside (as far I know at least) is that Genelab do not have a "inject a egg with the genom" option -_-'

Blaaah. So what would I use for egg injection then?

JayD's Egg Maker (C3 version here; DS version here) works, although the type-in area is pretty small so you have to give the gene file a short name.
There's an alternative way of getting a usable genome from a DS creature: export the chosen creature, then use Revelation to decompile the .creature file. You'll get a .genetics file that can be changed into a .gen file with no trouble and is hopefully small enough for the genetics kit to handle (though it's not 100% guaranteed).

Oooh! It can still open my original .gen file, so I can't imagine why it won't open the Norn's genome - the lost edits between the saved file and the Norn are tiny - but hopefully that means it's a bug of some sort rather than an actual oversize issue, and if so, the Revelation file ought to work. Thanks so much! I lost very little work, to tell the truth, so I can reconstruct most of it using GeneCompare if need be (though it's telling me there are some changes I neither remember making nor understand o.O) But it's still very good to have this in case of a larger catastrophe in the future.

If you are looking for a genome injector with a bigger input field, try the Portable Egglayer & Genome Injector. I think MNB made it, but I am not 100% sure. It looks like a weird green flower thing if that helps.

There's also devthing for all purpose injections, I like to use it because I can mix genes on the fly.

There's also Chris Double's C3 Genome injector
It will inject any .gen file as an egg into C3/DS (you might need c3 installed though, not sure). He has a pretty good alternative genetics editor also, on the same page, along with several other useful utilities.
You need to install a little package of creatures runtime library dlls he has on that page for most of his programs to work, the descriptions will mention it, and details are on the page... but all his installs should work with the games on any version of Windows as far as I can tell.
