C1 Fertility Problems

I'm having some problems with C1 fertility issues. For some reason I keep getting Norns who are horny and mate readily but do not conceive and the problem is in both the males and the females. Even using BORG and pumping them full of testosterone or estrogen (depending on their sex, of course) plus sex drive, I have yet to get a single egg from either of these pairs. One of them is the offspring of another pair I edited who, after a while, managed to make ONE egg.

I tried to edit the genomes to make them not just hornier but also more fertile, and the horniness edits work but the fertility edits don't or do only very marginally. I'm very rusty at gene editing after so many years so I'm sure there's something I'm missing. What should I be doing to improve fertility?

EDIT: OK, so while I was typing, apparently -somebody- finally succeeded, because there's an egg. I hope it's not just from the Bony Grendels. XD But still, fertility in general is an issue and I'd like to fix it.

How many norns are in your world? (If there are 12 norns, then no more eggs can be produced from kiss-popping.)

What kinds of edits have you applied to your norns?

IIRC, fertility in female norns is at its peak when oestrogen just begins to drop from its maximum.

I'm usually running two male and female pairs at a time, semi-wolfling. I leave them alone for long periods but check back every hour or two to name and export/copy anything new. Periodically, once pairs have had one or two offspring, I export the adults and let the new generation grow up to breed in turn. Or at least that's my usual style, but these guys' struggle to successfully fertilize each other has put a crimp in it. Still, I know it's definitely not a population issue; four adults, one standard grendel, and two Bony Grendels are all I have. (Friendly Grendel is running, also, but I doubt that has anything to do with it.)

I did a lot of different things. I was in a puckish mood and I was trying to see if certain human-like behaviors or conditions could be induced in Norns. So I made them bright blue to mark them visually (on an Albian Gray base so the color stands out nicely, although the first ones were basic horse norns and thus less flashy).

And then I went about editing various genes relating to sex and violence. This is the masochism genome; I'm going to make complementary sadists later on, once I get this one working right. The masochism behavior is basically perfect - I didn't edit hand spanks so I can still use them for discipline to some degree, but they get aroused and need-for-pleasure reduction (and I think a couple other things) from being hit by other creatures, they produce more sex drive and sex hormone than normal in general (or at least that's what I was trying for but I think I messed something up with the males since the females often have at least minimal fertility but the boys tend to be flat sterile without testosterone injections.) They also react differently to stress than normal, becoming aroused and stimulated by it rather than worn down.

I also gave them a few survival-aiding edits. For example I beefed up the 'eat when hungry' and 'sleep when tired' responses to make them better at taking care of themselves without being ordered to. But I think what I messed up is somewhere in the reproductive genes.

It's difficult to tell. In C1, sex drive is independent of fertility. What do your Male Hormones and Female Hormones graphs look like?

The following is a CrEd32 output of some 'normal' reproductive genes.
Bio Emt 0C Y F Mut/Dup/Del Creature : Reproductive : I am fertile (egg/sperm ready). Oestrogen released from emitter. Threshold level=00 Sample Rate=11 Gain=06 Emitter type=UNKNOWN (06)
Bio Rcp 14 Y F Mut/Dup/Del Creature : Reproductive : Become fertile if high. Oestrogen binds to receptor. Threshold level=00 Nominal Output=00 Gain=FF Output=Neither
Bio Emt 0E Y F Mut/Dup/Del Creature : Reproductive : I am fertile (egg/sperm ready). Sex Drive released from emitter. Threshold level=00 Sample Rate=14 Gain=07 Emitter type= Digital (o/p = Gain (If signal > threshold))
Bio Rcp 15 Y F Mut/Dup/Del Creature : Reproductive : Receptive to sperm if >0. Sex Drive binds to receptor. Threshold level=00 Nominal Output=2C Gain=FF Output=Neither
Bio Emt 10 Y F Mut/Dup/Del Creature : Reproductive : I am pregnant (egg & Sperm ready). Gonadotrophin released from emitter. Threshold level=00 Sample Rate=28 Gain=40 Emitter type= Digital (o/p = Gain (If signal > threshold))
Bio Emt 11 Y F Mut/Dup/Del Creature : Reproductive : I am pregnant (egg & Sperm ready). Progesterone released from emitter. Threshold level=00 Sample Rate=0D Gain=04 Emitter type= Digital (o/p = Gain (If signal > threshold))
Bio Rct 1F Y F Mut/Dup/Del 1 Gonadotrophin + 2 Oestrogen -> 1 Gonadotrophin, Rate=40
Bio Rcp 16 Y F Mut/Dup/Del Creature : Sensorimotor : Involuntary action 1. Progesterone binds to receptor. Threshold level=C8 Nominal Output=00 Gain=FF Output=Digital (o/p = nominal +/- gain if sig > threshold)
Bio Emt 0D Y M Mut/Dup/Del Creature : Sensorimotor : Permanently active (255). Testosterone released from emitter. Threshold level=00 Sample Rate=13 Gain=06 Emitter type= Digital (o/p = Gain (If signal > threshold))
Bio Emt 0F Y M Mut/Dup/Del Creature : Reproductive : I am fertile (egg/sperm ready). Sex Drive released from emitter. Threshold level=00 Sample Rate=19 Gain=08 Emitter type= Digital (o/p = Gain (If signal > threshold))
Bio Rcp 17 Y M Mut/Dup/Del Creature : Reproductive : Become fertile if high. Testosterone binds to receptor. Threshold level=00 Nominal Output=00 Gain=FF Output=Neither
Cre Ins 08 Y M Mut/Dup/Del If the following is present: Drive | Sex-Drive, General Sensory | It is of the opposite sex, - and if you ::Activate 1 it:: you get a reward of 207
Cre Ins 09 Y M Mut/Dup/Del If the following is present: Drive | Sex-Drive, General Sensory | It is of the opposite sex, - and if you ::Activate 2 it:: you get a reward of 112

Yes, so I've noticed - sex drive is absolutely not an issue, I've got that covered. It's fertility I borked somehow. Although it hardly matters until I figure out what's locking up the Genetics Kit, this is still very helpful, thank you. Testosterone and estrogen tend to be low, though males seem to be worse afflicted. Using BORG to inject them with those hormones seems to help somewhat, but the injections seem to decay very quickly, so I'm suspecting, at the moment, that I messed up a decay rate somehow.

The other thing I've noticed is that Adrenaline tends to remove sex hormones and lower sex drive - does Adrenaline hang around in your norns' systems?

Ooh. Now that's an interesting question. I did alter their 'response to stress' gene so that stress didn't hamper their sex drive, but I'm not sure I actually changed their adrenaline output - that might be the problem right there. I'll definitely test that as soon as I get the genetics kit working again.
