I played Creatures 1 and 2, and downloaded Docking Station free but was never able to get Creatures 3, years and years ago when I was younger. Recently something sparked nostalgia in me - I forget what - and I discovered that through GOG.com I could get the games again. Since a lot of my childhood games are simply lost to time, I was pretty happy to discover this. I don't want to worry about what's going to happen when I have to go back to using a Windows 10 machine... for now I'm just happy I'm on a Windows 7 for the moment.
For the most part, all three games run fine. The Creatures 2 Norns aren't as wildly stupid as I remember them being, either, which is nice, although I'm pretty sure the Hatchery eggs don't contain the same genomes as the original games did ages ago. I know for a fact the ones in Creatures 1 are wrong because you don't get a male and female of each basic breed - there's only one horse norn, extra pixies, and a PMN is mixed in. So that's wrong, but not a big deal. I've even found a handful of sites like this one that still have Norn adoptions, so I've bolstered my C1 stock that way.
The main problem I'm having is with the Genetics Kits. I was able to download and activate them using a Gameware license key, but they can't find the games. It's as if the actual Creatures games aren't installed on my computer. I tried to figure out how to change the pathway it's using to search for the game but it doesn't look like what I expected and didn't make any progress. So help with that would be REALLY nice. I relied a lot on the genetics kit back in the day.
There was also a COB or add-on I used to use that was sort of a little control panel - it had both breeding and medical functions IIRC. I wish I remember the name but I'll know it if I see it. Is this still available anywhere? I know a LOT of the old COBs and such are gone from sites going down, but I'm still hoping. :p
Finally, Docking Station wants me to log in before using it, but Gameware and Creatures Labs no longer seem to exist. All websites I can find are down. So is DS just useless now and I should content myself with C3?

I can't help you with the genetics kit, sorry. What I can say, though, is that you might wanna have a stroll through CCaves' download section. Perhaps you find your agent in there.
For the login thing, you might want to get the DS Offline Option from the bottom of this page. Just throw the files into their respective folders and start a new world.
It will not work on worlds you created beforehand, which are now already stuck on the login screen. You'll have to delete and recreate them for the changes to apply, but I guess that isn't much of a loss, is it?

Welcome back to Creatures
For the genetics kits: have you tried installing the Remastered Patch? That fixes some issues, so I would really recommend installing it. If that doesn't work, you might have to edit a registry key to change the pathway.
For the control panel: which game are you looking for this for? If it's C1, it sounds like you might mean something like BORG? If that's not it, you might be able to find it on the wiki.
As Papriko said, you need the offline option agent to play DS now. With that, it should work fine, though there's some other recommended fixes around. |

It was BORG, yes - thank you!
I'll try the Remastered Patch and see if that doesn't help. Otherwise I'm going to have to do something like send my modified gen files to other people to import into the game, then export and send me the .exp x.x What a pain!
EDIT: Figures... downloaded BORG and it's having essentially the same problem. Argh! Makes me almost wish I'd been patient and tried to find the game on CD on eBay instead of getting it from GOG.
EDIT II: Woohoo! The update worked, at least for the Genetics Kit. BORG seems to work, but buggily - exporting the Grendel and a few other options crash the game. Whoops. Thanks, though! Big help!
