Yep. Back in old 1996 was when C1 was released. 2016 marks the 20 Anniversary of when the game that all brought us here was made. I was 10 years old in 1996.
I did propose a special event of some sort to mark the occasion. I know I am going to have a special Creatures Pocket Edition update to commemorate the 20 years.
I am also going to personally reach out to Steve Grand himself, and see if he would like to say a few words to mark this event. I might even ask for a Q and A.
Any other ideas for an event, comments, anything you want to ask Steve, leave them below.
And again, happy 20th Creatures! Your now old enough to drink, and smoke.
I still call my mum "nlnl" (nu-nul) after one of the vocal sounds the Grendels made in C1. So many fond memories of this series over the years. It sparked a curiosity and interest about all things AI, leading me to love simulation games and virtual pets, plus more complex things like Dwarf Fortress.
I backed Grandroids for £50 purely to support Steve's future endeavors in a sector of AI research that seems sorely ignored these days, even in academia. He's been at the forefront of this technology for most of my life, and I'd love to see Creatures-esque games make some sort of resurgence in the future!
I was 12 in 1996. This game has shaped a good chunk of my personality - not the least my fascination with genetics and biochemistry (I was always a sciencey kid, but that focus came entirely from Creatures). For years I thought this game was just lost to time. My only regret is that I assumed that for so long. I wish I had been there for the last ten years or more in the community enjoying this game. I'm just glad I have it back now, and I'll probably continue playing it as long as I have computers that will run it, even if I'm the last person still interested.
Conclude with killer catchphrase. (Lurhstaap)

this is information!"

Yep so many good games in 1996. Crash, Pokemon. Zelda turns 30 this year with sonic hitting 25 this year.
Yep for me, creatures 1 was the only one I had until maybe 2004. I knew of creatures 2. Knew of Creatures 3. I even knew of Creatures adventures. Didn't get copies until 2004. So the only thing I played for 8 years was C1. C1 minus the patches and updates. Hands down, one of my favorite games growing up.
I Did not know of DS until I found that Gameware Development website.
creatures caves is your #1 resource for the creatures artificial life game series: creatures, creatures 2, creatures 3, docking station, and the upcoming creatures family.
