...not use their own names?? I notice that in one of the Docking Station worlds I have running, some of the norns always refer to themselves as "me" even though they've been named. They seem to know their names because they will follow instructions that I give them which implies that they understand ____ = "me", but they never use their names when referring to themselves and other norns don't refer to them by their names either (unless I activate the Stop Slapping agent, but even then the name is only used if that norn is either hitting or being hit by another norn). Has anyone else noticed this? |

I remember hearing somewhere that it's a result of educating the norn before it gets a chance to learn its name, but I'd take that with a grain of salt. Personally, I'd just chalk it up to the norn's personal preference. If your name was something like Gakusaborou or Glorious Boot, you'd probably want to just use a pronoun as well. I haven't seen an exception to this.. if you have a bunch of eggs hatching next to the learning machine, many of them will end up as "me", but if you have norns somewhere else with no way to teach themselves to talk and you leave them alone for a while, they all learn their names. |
