How do you set up your worlds? | |

I'm trying to figure out how I want to set up my main world, and I was curious how everyone else does it. When you hatch the first generation, how many norns do you use? How many different breeds? Do you give your norns full run of the ship, spread them out across multiple rooms, or keep them in one metaroom? Do you let them interact with ettins and grendels, or maybe you only raise one of those species? Do you have an IQ test? How involved do you get with your creatures? Do you separate out generations? Maybe you have a scenario world, like a monarchy or something like that. Sorry, that's a LOT of questions, and obviously you don't have to answer them all! I was just curious how everyone likes to play. |

I use Evos now, or Evo or CFF-based breeds.
Attempting to use even CFEs just results in me deleting the world because they're all too stupid.
I let them go wherever they want-Evos are good explorers-and I add Advanced Muco, Botanoids if not a water world, water metarooms if a water world, MW Room Edits, Garden Box, Peaceful Death and Protective Tub.

Usually when I start up, my general way of playing is to hatch some creatures who have interesting sprites or behaviours, and watch to see if they interbreed or splice in ways I like, then keep breeding/ect till I get a stable community of the preferred traits!
Since this can involve a lot of paying attention to a select set of individuals, I tend to install a lot of things that will help the general populace stay alive unattended, at least long enough for me to go do stuff, and then check back in on them. In terms of letting them roam, I like to limit where they can go until I have a large enough population of what I wanted, then they can be left to adapt independently!
The things that come to mind aaaaaaare:
The comfort candle agents - admittedly, I did make the sprites so I'm biased, but I love how reliably these cure homesickness in metarooms!
The supersplicer - more reliable than the port of the c3 splicer in DS, even if it's not as cool.
Mini-copier - extremely useful! Good for replicating other agents, as well as creatures you like the genetics of. Really great for making duplicates of individuals for splicing experiments.
The DS plant packs 1 and 2- Since norns like to wipe out plant life, having some (really pretty) plants that more or less drop edibles from the ceiling onto the norn meso is super useful! I'm also really weak for plant agents in general... Guess there's a reason I also use 'the mossy shee' as a name c: ...
The superfood vendor - It vends an outrageous amount of stuff, including some c2-to-c3 ported plants that are unique to the agent, and actually grow from the vended fruit sometimes! The fact that it can vend so many things is useful if it's left with norns too, as they're bound to vary up their diet just from tampering with it.
multi-agent-gold - automatically teaches all norns vocab at the click of a button, dispenses default toys and all of the food categories in the same manner, as well as injecting medicine/antibac and sex hormones as options too? Extremely useful. Also has a biofuel injector for c3 and docked setups.
If I'm docking the ds world or using water metarooms, then a -Swimmer agent - of some kind, as well as the -wetness agent - and - heat transfer in water- agent are a must!
Again for a docked world or c3, the infirmary metaroom and the grape-vine agent. The grape vine for making the desert and jungle more immediately survivable, and the infirmary for easier detox and care of creatures.
a MUST for c3/docked is one of the fish food agents to feed the stickletrouts in the norn terrarium, because otherwise those WILL die out no matter what else you do. You can also use the fish food agents as food for baby draconian norns because it's counted as a limitless edible supply of 'bug'! <3
in terms of metarooms, my solid faves are ones where you can limit access in and out if need be. The Tropics is hardly the most beautiful or finished metaroom, but it's ended up my absolute favourite just for how darn useful it is. I can either let norns use the teleporters in and out, or keep it isolated, also it has toxic and non-toxic versions of foods, plants, ect as well as a bacteria filter that can be used anywhere. (it also comes with some native flowers... again, weakness for plants...) and it's small enough to be easily controllable, but not TOO small.
Silence falls is also a nice stable little room, and for large rooms my fave is veridia by a mile for being beautiful and sprawling without containing anything buggy or laggy, as well as having a lot of customisation potential. Aquatilis pod is a mainstay of small scale, non-buggy aquatic creature keeping!
There's probably a ton more, but that's my general immediate setup before I do anything! c:
Also in terms of breeds, some people swear off of interbreeding standards, cfes and cffs/ect. I don't mind doing that personally, because while I know it can absolutely wreck the genomes/brain lobes, usually the severely defective ones die, and some of the quirky ones that come out are endearing! You also end up with some things with interesting care requirements too from time to time.

@Jesseth the trout only die out if you don't install the Vampess fixes.
The fixes are .cos files and fix the ecology, as well as vastly reducing memory usage and loading time and allowing grendels to use DS elevators.
EDIT: Also if you're using Verida, you NEED to add CA links and replace all the elevators with elevines. (Yes that includes removing the call buttons too.) They stim the creatures with something weird. |

@Wingheart there's lots of fixes and patches out there, and I've tried a few, but they never seem to do a huge amount, and nobody has ever noted whether any clash with each other, or what ones work best. So generally I opt to play it safe. Adding in the pond fish food fixes the problem and gives me unlimited food for insectivore creatures, so it's always worked well for me. c:
I've also never had any problems with veridia! Creatures seem to be able to navigate towards food/ect and operate the elevators. Also it's just me, but I don't actually like the ele-vine graphics much, and they're hard to use on a mac with a touch pad because some of the button sequences required to set up the vines are not compatible or hard to do.
Maybe I'm being a little bit of a bummer, but I was hoping to see some different fun set-ups from this thread, not 'what you're doing is wrong/inefficient'. :c

The Vampess ecology fixes, excluding the desert fixes, are compatible with everything.
(The pond fish food is also useful though, even with the fixes-as you said, infinite bugs.)
The desert fix requires the meerk update for some reason. |

I normally like giving them run of the ship normally, allowing the grendel and ettin mothers to run as normal and allowing whatever contact happens to happen... and starting out with one or two pairs is fine, they tend to be able to continue from there. I like starting with one pair and raising them a little so they know the basics, then I let them play while I raise a second pair, then I pretty much watch them... I will either do one breed if I really want to see that breed's behavior, or I'll try and mix ones with nice looks or odd behaviors to get something interesting... That being said, if you want less aggressive Grendels and a really cute toy gadget, I might be biased, since I made them, but I love using the Norn Plushies in any world... A few in the jungle and your Grendels can even pretty much forget about going after your Norns (plus they are adorable when they play with them...) watch out though, everyone loves them, Ettins will steal them too. I also have started putting the Soothing Herbal Tea set around... It helps calm stressed, crowded, or angry creatures, it's adorable, and it has some immune system boosting capability in it too.
Sometimes though, I like to use a more controllable large customizable metaroom like Chione or Veridia, which let me set up a nice environment for all of them where I can control all the conditions and easily restrict or allow access to the rest of the ship. I really like using the Garden Box agents, plants, and decorations too, I especially love the ability they have to create seasonal food differences that can make them migrate around, but there are so many that are just really nice-looking too and they let you customize the look and feel of your rooms so much.

I like to use the really nature-y metarooms, like the Biodome and Veridia, and then customise the heck out of them.
Usually, I'll use the Garden Box to have different foods for different seasons, and I like making little patches and treasure troves of certain foods only available for one season for my norns to find. Usually chocolate~ I also like to decorate them really fancy. I'll be the first to admit that I have a penchant for making sky-platforms with the Magic Words room edits, to sort of use as much space as possible for the little blighters. I even set up a nursery for them, with comfort candles and that fireplace-incubator thingummy that Ghosthande made last Christmas.
Come to think of it, I'm a notorious coddler. There are toys and treats all over the place, so my creatures are probably happy and stupid and wouldn't survive if they actually had to go looking for things.
And of course, if I'm feeling lazy, I just dock the world and scatter toys and vendors across those worlds instead. ![[ntongue] [ntongue]](/images/smilies/emot_tongue.gif)

Those all sound like good ideas! I'd love to use the Garden Box to customize a little more, especially since I want to use Ainarda and it starts out with no food sources. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get it to work - no option box pops up when I try to select an area for patch plants. I posted a thread on Garden Box Central but I don't think anyone is really active there anymore?
I'm trying to figure out whether I want to separate generations or not... Keeping them separate would be a lot easier for keeping a handle on the population, but I do love seeing stuff like babies learning words from hearing older norns talk. |

Nowadays, I usually don't dock and instead use one of the C32DS metarooms (which one depends on the kind of creatures I want to raise.) Or I use a few third party metarooms. I always inject the Crypt.
Regarding standard/CFE/CFF crossbreeding, I usually keep them in separate worlds.
I try not to overload the world with agents.

I'm still figuring out C3/DS, so all your posts are super-helpful!
As for C2, I start with removers for various objects. I probably don't NEED to, considering the power of my desktop, but I get rid of that awful dog and a few other things that slow down the world, like clouds.
I inject a lot of room fixers to prevent norns getting trapped, world bridges, and volcano garden. I put in some general script fixes like the death update, and I add a few more dangers in the form of wasps, more bees, and scorpions. I remove the cacti but no other bad plants.
Lastly, I look at food. I try not to make it a vendor-topia with tons of food in every room, since that doesn't promote exploration. but I'll plant seeds everywhere and spawn plenty of fish, and a few places with a single vendor. |

If running a CFF docked world, I add Amethyst Berries.
Results are frequently amusing. |

When I start out with my worlds, I usually start off with various breeds in the norn meso. I always make sure I inject Advanced Muco, Creature Nametags, Autonamer and the DS Eggonicer. I set the Eggonicer to handle norn eggs and I set it's max population to 15. I then have a tendancy to just turn music, voices and sounds off and set my world on fast ticks using Ctrl + W and then Ctrl + F. I leave it for half an hour or so before checking it. |
