First off, apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong place. I'm still a newbie here! Mods, feel free to move this topic if needed or I can delete and re-make it if needed.
So recently I have noticed a problem with sleepy norns in my world. Some norns will fall into a restless sleep for a long time, but their sleepiness and exhaustion will not decrease. Waking them is difficult - they can sometimes be woken by speaking to them, repeated slapping or by another norn trying to interact with them, but not always - and often they fall back to sleep again right afterwards! At first, I thought there was some kind of bug with my game that was causing this, but I'm inclined to think it's genetic because it only seems to affect some norns and not others.
Another thing is that this problem doesn't seem to begin until a norn is some way into adulthood. For example, Heather has been a healthy norn who sleeps in the normal way all her life. She has just started showing this strange sleeping behaviour now, at the age of about 2:20. This is typical, and because of this, a lot of norns who I originally thought were healthy and normal have been allowed to breed (I wouldn't have let them breed had I known they were going to have problems later in life!)
I've got the genetics kit and dDNA Analyzer, but I'm not very clever at the genetics stuff. So if anyone is able to help with advice and whatnot, I'd be super grateful! |

Are the Norns standing up and/or moving around when they sleep? |

Yep, that's what I meant by "restless sleeping" (sorry for being unclear!) |

This sounds a lot like Bellona, my sleeping beauty Norn! Jessica wrote a case study on her over at Discover Albia, if you want to give it a look. It's a fascinating read, and explains in detail about the genetic mutations which cause her to behave that way.
I hope those links go a bit further towards helping you figure out what could be happening to your own Norn and how to handle it! In Bellona's case, it was concluded that she may have a focus problem, rather than a sleeping problem. |

Thanks, I'll give those links a read! That's really interesting!
In my case I have quite a few norns who seem to have this problem. I wish I had picked up on it sooner ie. before they all had babies. Weeding them out of the gene pool is going to be tricky. |

This was really interesting and helpful! My sleepy norns are quite similar but not identical to Bellona. Like Bellona, gene 129 also has the receptor in what seems to be an unknown location, and in genes 62 and 64 my sleepy norns seem to experience nothing at all when tired or sleepy.
Thanks very much for that link, it was great! I've actually learned quite a bit about Creatures DNA thanks to this. |
