C2 New Breed Installation Error
Congested

Hi guys, I seem to be having a problem with installing the Creatures 2 breeds with .exe file installers? It tells me that I'm missing a cmac.s16 file. I tried installing the remastered patch multiple times, but I'm still getting that same error. If anyone could come up with a solution I would be very greatful. :)

Try moving them to the game's folder and running them from there, if you haven't already. I think if you have the game installed in Program Files x86 it will struggle to find the correct path when you run those breed .exes from a different location.

You might also want to try running them as administrator if that still doesn't work.

Have you installed the Creatures Remastered patch?

Do you have the Albian Years version of C2?

If you do, there is probably a 'Creatures 2' folder in your 'My Documents' or 'My Documents\Creatures' something like that, which corresponds to the 'Albian Years\Creatures 2' folder in your 'Program Files' (or 'Program Files (x86)' )... Occasionally what will happen is some files are accidentally installed in the wrong place for the game to notice them, so it thinks they are missing.

In this case, the issue is with an image... so look inside the Creatures 2 folder in your documents, and you will see a folder called 'Images'.

Copy EVERYTHING from that 'Images' folder into the 'Images' folder in Program Files\Albian Years\Creatures 2 (do not overwrite anything with the same name)...

Now... select all and copy everything in the program 'Images' folder, into that Images folder in My Documents (again, don't overwrite anything)...

This process syncs the two folders, and should make sure all images and sprites are now all wherever the game or agent installer is trying to look for them.

Yeah I do have the Albian Years version. However when I looked in the Creatures 2 Folder under My Documents, the folder was already empty. I don't know what to do anymore ;n; ...

Have you tried reinstalling Creatures 2 into your documents folder?

I don't think installing the game into the documents folder is a good idea. There's a reason the documents folder contains seperate files from the installation dir.

I've tried it, and never encountered a single problem with any of the games. :P

It's good to install it there in the first place if you know what you are doing with the location... but if you have windows and already installed it, you will be in bad shape if you ever try and uninstall and reinstall it to a new location... The uninstaller does not properly remove some registry entries, and the installer will not overwrite them if they are already there... It will make all kinds of things not able to talk to the game any more, possibly make it so C3 can't see DS, or vice versa... some kits not work in earlier games... it's bad and the fix involves manually going into your registry and rooting out every entry for Creatures, which really stinks...

The best setup really is to install it to my documents first... Everything will work flawlessly as long as you have the games installed to the right path (My documents/creatures/game name)... Barring that though, having it installed it to the default location and using the Creatures remastered patch is the best bet for something that will work. In that case, you just need to be aware of the two sets of folders for each game... Also, if it's not installed to my documents you might want to always run the games and any tools that talk to them, and any installers for things for the games, as Administrator.

In your case, I would still look for both 'images' folders in both locations (my documents and wherever the creatures 2 install is), and make sure they both have all the same files... it really should fix your problem if you are looking at the right folders... it's okay if one was empty at first, just make sure at the end they both have all the files from both. It's kind of a kludge but I found it to help with all kinds of missing file problems with that kind of install... just sync the folders for whatever kind of file is missing.

It might also help to just search your system for that file, since you know the name... it might help you figure out what's going on if you find it.
