| Docking Station acting up. | |

I recently got a Toshiba computer after my old computer died. Hoping to re-install Docking Station at least I did. After successfully getting it back despite the 16-bit issue it now goes to the first screen of the game. Though it never actually loads to the menu. It is getting a bit frustrating. What do I do to fix this?
I have downloaded it and deleted it a few times. Other times it tells me it is missing a file and makes my screen black. Any suggestions? They would be greatly appreciated!

does it tell you what it's missing? Also it might make a difference whether it's the good ol' games version or a previous one for people who might be able to help! c:

Every time I get this game I get it from here. I usually don't have many problems. The first time was the "Main Directory" .
The rest was a music file. It has been rather odd lately. Thank you for your prompt reply.

Also, it can take a while to load up.
Windows can say it's frozen when it actually isn't. |

I'll keep that in mind. If so it is currently still frozen.

No problem, I'd help out more if I could, but I'm not much of a debugger c':
The best thing i can think of is maybe try and list files it thinks are missing, and try and locate them using a file search? it could be that for some forsaken reason it's not putting everything where it should and it just needs moving.
Then there's always running things as administrator and compatibility mode, but you've probably done that already and it doesn't always help.

xD Yush. I will try the file search. Though currently it is just on the start screen; it wont go to the menu sadly.

And if that doesn't work, and you REALLY don't want to use the GOG version, there's always emulators. |

Would I have to buy the GOG version?

If you want it, yes.
Unless someone gives it to you. |

I'd rather not buy it... I might have to see if someone would. Till then I used Webroot to remove all of it from my computer. I am going to re-install it again.

You didn't save your agents, worlds and creatures? |

Saved them all into separate folders. Though the Docking Station window won't close.

Task Manager and then End Task, if you're using Windows. |

- What version of your OS are you on?
- When DS has the blank window open, is it using any CPU (you can check in the task manager as instructions given above)?
If it has an error window open (wide grey window) it's definitely frozen, so if that's the case, well, it's definitely frozen.
I've had the music error a few times too-- usually relaunching it a few times did the trick. It can have some weird race conditions on first run, especially on newer computers, I think. |

Actually if the grey 'this is not responding' window only pops up when you click on the window, and it is either a, loading a world, b, injecting something large, or c, finding CA links with Magic Words, it's not actually frozen unless it stays like that for more than three minutes.
No, really.
Those things lock up the game until they're done and Windows thinks it's frozen.
(For the record, c2tods took two minutes to inject the first time for me.) |

Ah, you're right, I should be more specific; I didn't mean the 'this program is not responding' window, I mean DS' specific engine errors, which usually have 4 buttons at the bottom and a lot of copy-pastable text about exceptions at the top. (Which would be very handy to copy-paste here, if they come up.) |

If it's something like "Agent Curlshoot bounding box error" and autokill is off, do not quit, just press kill agent.
Basically if it's a plant, injectable toy, or food agent throwing an error because it's someplace it shouldn't be, just kill it, turn on Autokill (ctrl+shift+w, ctrl+shift+a, the w one again) and tada working. |

It's stuck on the page showing the norn. I used webroot to remove it. Then had it taken out of quarantine. No the shortcut wont work.

Use task manager to kill it.
Then fully delete it and use the GoodOldGames version or reinstall.
Also, don't uninstall things while they're running, and you could have just used the uninstaller INCLUDED WITH THE GAME instead of Webroot. |

I rebooted the thing. We are now back to the "Main Directory" is missing issue.

Did you redownload all the files you deleted? |

Not yet, I was going to wait till I get the game back to do it. It is back to when it only had a single error.

Redownload it.
It cannot work if you have deleted vital files with Webroot.
Also, the screen is supposed to flicker black for a moment as it goes to 16 bit. |

Okie, I'm downloading it.

Also, if you get it working, please download the CFF norns from this site and use those (although hatch a plain ChiChi first to get the sprites unpacked).
It improves the game experience a lot.
You can also get the Protective Tub autonamer for hilarious names. |
