I posted this on the Creatures Online forums but since Creatures Caves seems to be busier I thought i'd also post it here for the people who don't frequent the other forums.
A few months ago I streamed Docking Station on Twitch for a little bit to introduce the game to some of my friends. I kind of had fun doing it, and kind of want to do it again, maybe.. but most Twitch viewers wouldn't be interested in it. They're more interested in games like Call Of Duty and stuff.. but I was wondering if I came here to the Creatures community and asked, if anyone would be interested in watching me stream it in the future.
I ask this because I remember back when there used to be a 24 hour streaming live feed of a creatures game (i forgot who did it?) that people enjoyed going to watch every now and then, including myself! I figured this would be very similar, except live and with an actual person to interact with!
So what do you think? |

You're thinking of Live Nornish Action, hosted by Amaikokonut.
I would adore more streaming, hands-on or off-- I'd be doing some myself if I had the system for it. I believe Amaikokonut posted some of the utilities they used on the stream (like the script that switches creatures every now and then) on their blog. |

I think it sounds like a wonderful and interesting idea, and would love to watch the streams! ![[ngrin] [ngrin]](/images/smilies/emot_grin.gif)

I may be streaming portions of the wolfing run in my forum run on my twitch, but it's a strict no-interference with an invisible hand. |

Doringo I would love to watch your stream, and anyone else who decides to do it too for that matter.
Thanks! I'm so happy others think it's a good idea too. So far since only a couple of people have said they would watch it sounds like it will be not so often, but if more people say they are interested then I will make it more common that I stream.
I guess when I do it I can announce it in the forums here a little while ahead of time so people can have a chance to be aware of it. It won't be today, but in the coming days maybe.
I have ideas like even a live contest where people can submit their own norns and see which ones survive survivor style or something.
Would it be safe to link to my Twitch stream when I do announce that I will be streaming?
And a little off topic, I've been away from the Creatures Community for a little while, does anybody know if people are able to use the creatures warp again in game or not?

The warp's been down for quite a while. No word on when it's coming back, though a couple of people have been working on third-party replacements-- those projects are more or less stalled out at the moment, though.
I don't see why anything would be wrong with linking your stream, as long as it's creatures-centric- I could swear I've seen others do the same, but my memory is ... odd. Bibble would probably the best way to do so either way. |

I have mine as my website link on my profile, But if you do have a website you want people to be able to see, then you could probably put it in your description and/or go with what xan just said. |

Speaking of websites, I would like to make a stream overlay for the game. Does anyone know anywhere I can download and use some free Creatures images/stuff/backgrounds legally to do so with?
Also, I followed you Doringo |

I remember a disclaimer for that kind of thing, I think it went like "Images Copyright Gameware Development Ltd 2009 and used with permission." or something, You may need to look up something official to check. |

Promo gallery.
I have never once heard of Gameware or CL getting on anyone's case for using their promo graphics, they're promo graphics. |

Gameware Europe has a special provision for Creatures fans on their copyright page.

I read it and I don't understand what it's saying. It's too legalese for me. I guess it's off to make my own art. |

To quote the relevant part:
We make exceptions for Creatures players who wish to develop their own non-commercial websites and games devoted to our titles. For these users we are pleased to allow the use of any artwork from our websites and there is no need to contact us - however, we would appreciate a link back to our website and a copyright notice indicating the origin of the art!
That's why you see "Images Copyright Gameware Europe Ltd 2012 and used with permission" on a lot of the promo pictures in the art gallery.

You would be surprised at how open-minded some people on Twitch can be (note the word some though...) so I would say it's a worthy idea for the possible benefit of introducing the series.
Any kind of showing would do I imagine though I think having a bit of dynamic-ness would do some good to keep viewers from being bored. Something like an uneven playing field as an example. Let's say the Norns start out fairly barebones while the Ettins are allowed to run amok and able to freely steal gadgets. It's a very basic example so something with more thought put into it would be better but I hope it gets the point across. |

Oh, that's all I have to do? That's easy, thanks for dumbing it down for me
Also, thank you for the suggestions, it definitely adds more ideas to my mind! I am leaning towards ideas that incorporate the viewers in some way. |

If you're decent with bash and/or python, you could do a twitch-plays type of thing-- given I've got no ideas for what mechanism to give watchers access to. |

On the subject of creatures twitch streams, I recently did a broadcast for my forum run, which the replay can be accessed here if you're interested. |

That is SUPER cool! I followed you already so hopefully I can catch a stream... and I'm so jealous of your streaming quality!
I did a test stream today to see if I could get everything right and the highest streaming quality I could manage is so poor you can barely read what the norns are saying. I'm trying to compensate by making the game screen a little bigger. I may just have to throw out the whole idea of having an overlay and make the screen full screen. |

I used to love sending my creatures to Live Nornish Action then watching them. I miss the warp and wish I was smart enough to find a work around.
I would certainly watch the stream, as long as I had a little notice. I might even look into what it would take to join in and stream a bit of DS.
