I /constantly/ get stuck in DS when I happen to pick up an item on the same tick as pausing. Since my hand's in 'hold' mode, there's no way to unpause the game or even save before quitting as far as I can tell. (It happens from time to time with agent help too- but at least I have a key command to turn that off.) Sometimes it happens and I'm unclear on how I even managed to pause the game, which implies to me there's a keyboard shortcut I'm hitting accidentally but can't find. I'm on a laptop, and have no pause key, so that's obviously not it. But looking at the source for the DS keyboard handler is making me go cross-eyed. It's frustrating and has made me lose progress more than once. Does this happen to anyone else, or am I just unlucky? Is there a pause key-bind other than the pause key...? |

Maybe it's something like Ctrl+P? And I am pretty sure that you do have a pause key. It's most likely just behind some other key and has to be activated with Fn. I can not guarantee it, but I think the CAOS console is excluded from the pause function. You could try to enter the code "targ pntr drop", forcing the hand to drop whatever it holds. Nah, I definitely don't. I don't even have the hacked- on ones that Parallels/VMWare provides. Though if VirtualBox has a bind for it I wasn't able to find, that might help. Keyboard remapping in my host OS is not useful for weird VM reasons. The console doesn't work during pause, no.  An external-to-the-engine one might, but I don't have one, and it would be a pretty frustrating 'solution', especially for how often this happens.Testing every combination of ctrl- and ctrl-shift letters was literally the first thing I did. |

Try pressing the pause/break button, if it's on your keyboard. It's a hotkey for pausing/unpausing the game that I use all the time. It should be very close to the print screen and the scroll lock buttons. |

Perhaps you could configure your VM to map the Pause on some key you never need/use? Then you had a Pause key to unpause again. Lets play plants! Photosynthesis... Photosynthesis... Photosynthesis... |
