I've never had this happen before. When I hit continue the game crashes. The blotched out part is the worldname. |

Sounds like the game is trying to access a file or object that no longer exists. Perhaps an orphaned script is still running when it shouldn't be?
Just a guess, and I'd have no idea how to fix it. :/ |

In my experience, the errors for missing assets are more specific (eg. SharedGallery :: DoCreateGallery for missing images on load)-- this looks more like an error in RAM, or deeper in the guts somewhere. If pressed I'd guess, in a really wide sense, it's misplaced a script or variable it was supposed to save-- or something in its environment isn't right. I've encountered similar errors when running DS through WINE, which is about as unright an environment as you can get.
Did you by chance interrupt the save or autosave process the last time you closed the world? Have you moved the install itself to another system, or anything else bizarre? Also, you aren't already having RAM issues or weird glitches elsewhere on your computer, right? Rebooted recently? Updated the OS? Changed the computer environment in any way?
Alternatively, knowing Creatures engine, it could be something totally unlike that and benign, and that particular error is just unhandled.
If you're feeling brave, you can research exactly what a 'handle' is. Here's a quickie on it.
Anyway, in shorter and other words, odds are if the error appears consistently: if that world isn't gone, it's going. I hope you can get it running, or already have somehow.
Otherwise (if it now runs, or runs after something basic like a reboot), it's just one of those weird things. Though I'd still back up the world, personally. |

I don't think it has anything to do with my computer itself.
The world is actually an old world from 2005 that I found (along with a few other slightly younger worlds that actually worked fine), so the list of things that could have potentially happened to the file itself over time is probably pretty dang long. Who knows how many CDs it's hopped around on.
I was really hoping it was something simple that I just didn't understand because, judging by the fact that the world was named my own name in all lowercase, it was probably my very first world I ever made in DS! I figure I accidentally saved it on a CD when I was backing up my agents without realizing.
I would have loved to see what wacky stuff 10 or 11 year old me was up to. Probably something disappointingly boring, but it still would have been cool. |

Awwww.
Yeah, I'm not surprised to see that on such an old file. I wouldn't trash it just yet-- see if you can maybe find an older computer (or set up a VM) with an environment similar to the one you think it was originally made in. 'Environment' mostly meaning OS-- the installer should handle the rest-- use the same installer of course, no Internet Edition or GOG Exodus if the original was retail C3. There might be a little hope.
Otherwise, sadly, it may have fallen victim to entropy. I'm glad you were at least able to salvage some of your discoveries. |

Thanks for the advice. If I ever get it running, I'll post back. Here's hoping! |
