As part of the course I've been doing, I've had to learn a bit of HTML and CSS so that if I had to, I could maintain an existing website. I'm interested in starting up a mini-website, just to keep my hand in the game, and I'm wondering what's out there in terms of free offerings.

Thanks, but it doesn't look like Google Sites will let me practice my CSS properly, because it doesn't seem like CSS stylesheets are allowed.

I do miss the times, back in the day, there were so many websites offering you to create your own website with your own coding and CSS, all you had to endure was a banner on the side for commercial purposes. Now if you want a website and look at the free options, they offer you wordpress templates that you can alter. But you're not allowed to alter everything unless you pay
If you do find a good one I would be interested to know too! |

You could try BitBalloon, it looks like they offer everything you would need. |

but to be hosted here, would there need to be a creatures-theme to the website? Or is it anything (within reason) goes? :O |

I can not speak for The Great Bengal himself, but I would guess that your sub-site should at least have at least more than 50% creatures theme. Some other stuff yes, but the main theme is obvious. This is CREATUREScaves.com afterall, not, IDK, Simscaves.com or Petzcaves.com

lawl, Karias had a personal blog hosted here years back. I don't recall it being very Creatures-themed. |

Yeah, that was what was holding me back from asking - I'm not sure that I want my practice site to be Creatures-themed, and I really just want something to toy with - something that I can create and destroy over and over again, learning by experience.

get yourself a dropbox account and head over to either droppages.com or pancake.io all of them are free and both pancake and droppages allow html and css. I've used both and once you finish the initial set up, uploading a file is just dragging and dropping it in a specific folder on your computer. Then letting the dropbox program do the rest.
granted this wont help you if you want to run something more substantial than a personal page, which case I recommend spending the money and buying yourself a hosting package. |

I don't have any strict rules on hosting Creatures vs non-Creatures-related websites. Anyone can PM me to discuss if interested.
