I don't prefer creatures 3 because they reproduce too easily and quickly, and it's nearly impossible for me to keep track of so many norns arriving so quickly. I end up with a lot of nameless norns that are nearly meaningless to me.
I didn't like Creatures 2 because of some of the behavior problems - the walking into walls thing. Has anyone created Creatures 2 norns that are still basic normal norns, except without this problem? And if so, are they more intelligent and interesting than Creatures 1 norns? What other benefits are there of the gameplay in Creatures 2? What do people use it for?
Do Creatures 2 creatures ever eventually teach themselves not to walk off edges, or is perpetually watching over them just part of the deal?
One more question: Is there anyone else like me who still mostly just plays Creatures 1, and if so, what do you do with it? |

Well, for the name problem, there's the autonamer in C3/DS.
Also, this superbreeding thingy is something many people don't like. Breeds like the Tilynn Norns come in very handy. They live longer, kiss less and that way you have much more time to get emotional bonds to them.

The walking into walls thing is a symptom of OHSS (One Hour Stupidity Syndrome). This was a problem with the genomes that came with the game, so thankfully, it's fixable if you just use a different genome. The Canny Norns are one example of a breed that was made specifically to counteract the issues seen with OHSS.
C2 Norns are definitely more complex than C1 Norns... the smartest and most complex of any of the games, I would say. It's really a shame that OHSS makes it so hard to enjoy C2 without using third party genomes to "patch" the problem.

I have the same issue with C3. There's just too many of them.
And the same problem with C2. I tried the scarlet pufferfish but I eventually just had to add the ocean bridges so they'd stop gleefully jumping into the ocean. And even then I came back to find an egg in the ocean. |

There are probably more people playing C1 than C2 since it's easier to get it working. If you want to find out what people are doing with it, this blog feed is a good place to start. It doesn't always work, so come back to it later if you're having trouble.
C2 Norns are, as Ghosthande mentions, much more complex than C1 Norns. In fact, they might be both the dumbest and smartest out of all the games' Norns. Regarding genomes, as well as the Canny Norns, there's also the Nova Subterra Norns, and a cross between the two called Kannova Norns. You should be able to find them all in the breeds section here. While all these Norns have a reduced propensity to wallbonk, they still have a fairly strong tendency to run off cliff edges - all creatures do - but you can mediate that with a few COBs.
Hael, I think it's possible to drain the ocean of water if you have the Room Editor. That could be an option if you're really at the end of your tether. Add a couple of teleporters so they don't get stuck. Mind you, I can't remember if C2 Norns actually use teleporters. One of the Ocean Expansion Pack COBs by Helen makes the dark blue ocean liveable for air-breathing creatures, you might find this useful as well. |

The best genome I've found so far is JayD's WolfingRun Canny, which was based off the Canny genome. His version further tweaks the genes associated with wall-bumping. It's nipped in the bud now. Any norn walking into a wall will be turned around, and if they continue to try walking into the wall, they will be given a strong urge to rest and reconsider their actions.

In addition, grab JayD's Albian Updates v1.1, which improves several scripts, helping norns eat and sleep better, amongst other things.
I consider C2 to be the 'perfect' entry in the series, after these patches. They behave just fine now. Also, don't use the Pufferfish cob, use Lifeguard, because Pufferfish can't save norns from certain areas (such as the pond next to the Hatchery). |
