I've played all of the games and I've decided that while the more polished and agent friendly C3/DS is probably the best start to the games, C2 is my favorite by far. I don't know what it is. The graphics aren't that much different. But somehow I feel I much stronger connection to my C2 norns than to any in C3/DS. Whenever they make their pain or shocked faces it's just heartbreakingly adorable. For some reason my C3/DS norns just don't get that same emotional response from me. Maybe because there are many more of them.
Unfortunately my C2 is extremely buggy. It crashes constantly often without saving first.
I know that the C2 world is an available addon to C3/DS. And that many of the basic breeds have been converted. I was wondering how difficult it would be to convert my personal breed that I'm really attached to so that I can run them in DS.
I apologize if this has been asked before. I'm trying to get the best experience possible with the most interesting creatures possible.
Thanks, for any help. |

Depends what you mean. Do you mean a complete breed with own sprites and genetics and all?
The sprites can be kinda puzzled together. It is somewhat tedious, as we are literally handling thousands of sprites. But looking at C2toDS, it has been done before.
The genetics had to be reconstructed from scratch or another existing C3 genome, as you can't just shove the files from A to B and expect them to work. With some practice, genetic editing is not that hard, though, so it actually could be done quite quickly.
Lastly, if you mean with "breed" something like a family or clan of norns that you have been breeding, there is no way to directly get them into the game. You could again look at the sprites and the genetics and try to recreate them, but you can not get the originals into the game.

Papriko's right. But if you've created a breed for C2 already, I think you'll find that making it for C3 is not terribly difficult. I've not modded for the older games but all things considered, C3/DS seems to be the most straightforward to create things for.
Depending on what your breed is like, if it doesn't have any specific behavioral quirks, you can literally just take the CFE ChiChi genome, change the appearance genes to your breed's new slot, and you're set as far as genetics are concerned.
Converting sprites is also a bit easier and quicker than making them in the first place... so if you did sprite your own breed, you don't need to think of it as some big monumentous thing. It might take some time to convert them, depending on what needs to be done, but it's certainly possible.

Hm, I've tried editing the genes in C3 but it's just not the same. Maybe it's because in C3 they breed much more rapidly or I can have more of them or just that they appear smaller, but I just don't feel the same connection with my creatures I do in C2.
They just seem so much more emotive in C2. I mean look at these:

I guess if I paid as much attention to C3 I could find similarly moving pics but they mostly just seem to like to sit and stare at the screen.
So it's not just an issue of sprites or genetics, the whole gameplay feels different for me. And I tried going back to C1 to see if C3 was just different, but C1 felt odd and awkward in other ways.
Is it just me? Does anyone else find C2 to be the most enjoyable? |

Have you tried many different genetic breeds in C3? Some are much hardier than others and they often have quite different behaviors. You may find one that takes your fancy, even if you don't like them as much as C2 Norns. |
