Critters, Leaves, and Bugs?

So, I only found out recently that these things can be edible. But I can't seem to find anything on what nutrition they offer?

I think critters/bugs offer protein? I'm not sure, not alot of my creatures even bother trying to eat them tbh.

Generally speaking, critters and bugs offer protein and fat (though for most creatures this is much less than what food offers) and leaves generally offer starch and fat.

It depends on the agent, a lot of default critters,bugs and all default leaves are inedible in C3 and DS, third party leaves are usually edible though.

Generally speaking;
critters and bugs= protein+fat
leaves=starch+fat

Thanks, that answers my question! I haven't seen a norn try to eat any of these things but it's possible I've missed someone deciding to munch on a critter.

Most norn breeds are herbivores, bondi norns are omivores though, as I believe are jungle and banshee grendels.
Many third party breeds are omnivores or carnivores though, I think draconian norns may be carnivores? I don't remember if they need seeds or not.

From my experience, draconian norns will readily eat bugs and critters, but unless the bug or critter is 3rd party or otherwise coded specifically to give nutrition, they seem to get very little out of it. I've tried watching their drives and such while eating just using the hover doc to check this too, and their drives/meters barely fill at all upon eating a standard bug that's not intended as a food for instance.

It comes down to the stimulus the agent gives the Creature when it is eaten.

The standard for edible bugs and critters is stim 80 ("eaten animal" ), which provides protein and fat. Eating edible leaves usually gives them stim 77 ("eaten plant" ), the same stim seeds use, which gives the eater starch and fat.

Obviously this will vary if people aren't consistent in what stims their agents use; if someone gave their leaf the "eaten fruit" stim instead, Creatures would get different nutrients from it. And when a Creature tries to eat an inedible agent, typically they just get Disappointment from it.

Yeah the nutritional values from the stim in a normal genome is fairly low in comparison to 'normal' foods, and it is actually possible that the scripts involved in many of the official C3/DS bug and critter and leaf agents don't even allow eating or don't properly send the correct 'eaten animal', or 'eaten plant' stim (there are several scripts in C3/DS that neglect to send the proper stims, such as the wallbonking one).

In typical norns (and the evos and fred&ethyl), the 'eaten animal' stim gives about 3/8 the protein and fat that 'eaten food' does. Leaves (if edible, and the script properly sends the 'eaten plant' stim) are just as nutritious as seeds. The only odd things I have noticed my norns eating so far are the stingers and some kind of butterfly.

The instincts my new norns have for these things are pretty weak, and should be mostly ignored if there are better food sources around (and if there are other better sources they will learn them, they will also learn to avoid trying to eat these things if they are getting no nutrition from them), If that category of agents around where they live are inedible, they should also get disappointment and learn to not try them, but still, I will be looking at the eat scripts for the official agents.

EDIT: They should like the Crobsters that come with the Bondi Norns, with some encouragement. Though they will still like food more, since it's more nutritious for them.
