Miscellaneous Creatures 2 Questions

Can the creatures use doors? Ive never seen one open a door and then walk through it. And they're classified as implements. Would the creature even recognize it as a way to get from a to b?

Also, is there a way to get the status bar to stay put in the Albian Years? Every time I restart the game, its gone.

Hello OneDay, welcome to the forums!

For your first question, I believe creatures can use doors, but only very rarely. I know for a fact that they can because the Ettin in the swamp area often ends up stuck underground due to shutting the door on itself. :P

As for the second, I have the same problem, and can't seem to find a solution. I'm not sure if this problem persists in the original version from 1998, which I also own on disc, so I'll have to check at some point. But yes, you'll just have to keep re-enabling it for now. :(

Also, happy new year!

Happy new year!

I know they can push doors. Although some doors seem lock letting you effectively trap a creature, like the submarine bay one. What I'm wondering is can they make the connection between needing to go somewhere and pushing a door to get to it if the door is in their way?

Well, I know in C3/DS Norns certainly do open doors. However, seeing as Albia in Creatures 2 is an open world as opposed to the individual metarooms in C3/DS, I doubt a creature's instinct to open a door would be as strong. But to be truthful, the creatures in Creatures 2 just aren't that smart to begin with, no matter which genome you use. I'd love for someone to rebuild the game from the ground up using the Creatures Evolution Engine utilized by the later games, but unfortunately that probably won't be happening any time soon. :(

Thats true, the doozers are probably smarter then the Norns. Creatures 2 is beautiful but can hardly be called a well made game. Especially compared to the rest of the series.

The norns in c1 and c2 have much less sophisticated brains than the ones in C3/DS... Considering they are pretty much simple neural nets they are decent, but the ones in C3/DS are much better... I mean, you still need the new game engine to help them, but still.

C3/DS brains can associate instinctual actions or situations with reducing specific drives instead of just being generally good or bad. They are much better at recognizing their situation and details of what they are looking at and remembering those details in relation to decisions they make. They can form relationships with specific agents or creatures, not just whole classes of objects.

There are additional brain lobes that deal with these things as well as general mood and let them relate that to all their decisions. they have improved stimuli reactions that also work better with their learning and even can suggest an action as a response to a stimuli (like a reflex). Unlike in older games, they actually know their left from their right, and will take direction into account in their decisions too.

in fact, the brains in C3/DS have nearly double the number of lobes of the old ones, and the function of one of the old lobes in C2 brains was replaced with a much more versatile set of floating receptor/emitters which better simulate the actions of certain kinds of hormone regulation that the old lobe used to carry out, also making these functions easier to tinker with.

Very interesting! Need to observe this sophisticated norns soon.

But why are Creatures 2 norns dumber than the original? Is the world too complex for them? Or are they just poorly designed from the game being so rushed?

Well, OHSS was a C2 thing, not a C1 thing. So there's that at least.
