Question about DS

Whenever I play DS, I do a wolfing run. I spend most of the time with the window minimized.

Unfortunately with DS, it eventually gives me an error message and crashes.

Is that common?

What's the error?

Can't give you exacts, but I monitor it for like an hour, and when I walk away and come back, it usually partains to an agent. Killing it removes the problem.

Sometimes I have agent after agent crash. Then I restart the world and it's just fine. I always told myself the world starts falling apart after running for a long time. That was just the way it was.

If you turn on autokill, the game will automatically remove the crashing agent.

What sort of errors, though? Make sure Autokill is turned off in-game, (by pressing Ctrl+Shift+W, Ctrl+Shift+A and Ctrl+Shift+W in that order) and then you should be able to take screenshots of any error messages the game throws up next time, and post them here.

We'll be better equipped to help you get to the bottom of them that way. :) It's a bit difficult when we don't have enough details!

I was just inquiring if that is common or not for that to happen.

I suppose not. I will do that next time I run it.

Thank you.

Well, we can't tell you if it's commonly encountered problem or not until we know the exact error messages. :P That would be a great help. :)

It depends on what you have in your world. I've found that balloon bugs, for instance, are very crashy unless you have a patch for them... and even then they can still sometimes crash.

If you can identify a particular agent that keeps crashing, you can usually remove it from the world to prevent it from happening again, or possibly find a patch that will solve the problem. For most agents you will see the name of the agent in (parentheses) inside the error message. If not, you can compare the classifier it mentions to the CDN Classifier page or the reservation list here on CCaves to maybe get an idea of what it is, or at least who made it.

I know Bramboo can slow the world, but could it crash it?

The lesson is that creatures 3/ds didn't have much heart put into it. (They don't even have stomachs jfc)

Not sure, but I think bramboo can slow at least almost to the point of slowing. Better get the bramboo patch. It just makes so many things easier.

I do know that with the bramboo patched, if I have autokill turned off probably 9 out of 10 errors I get are balloon bugs trying to defy the laws of physics again. So they're definitely an issue sometimes.

Balloon bugs? Is that an agent or bugs that occur when creatures or you use the speech bubbles?

In this case "bug" is meant as "tiny living thing with 6 legs" and not "computer program gone wrong". Balloon bugs are those transparent blue-ish tiny creatures that fly around in the desert of the Creatures 3 ship.

Does the error look anything like this, Norn_master? That's an error message that I've had with the balloon bugs before.

No. I often run DS standalone without any extra agents. It could be the special Norns I load.

I just load me in there, pay attention to them for like an hour, and leave my computer running all night long. I wake up to errors.

If I reload the world from it's save point, everything look normal and fine.

I was just under the assumption that DS would eventually get errors no matter what, and eventully you would have to reload it.

Thanks for clearing up the balloon bug thing. I don't use those. It is nice to know that C3 has a patch tho. I will look into it.
