Dealing with some issues in C2

So, recently I resorted to a VM (Virtual Machine) in order to emulate Creatures 2 in a better area than my Windows 8.1 could provide it with.

After numerous attempts to get it to run correctly on my new-ish computer (bought back on June 1st) I gave up until I remembered that it was possible to run older games/programs in a Virtual Machine.

But then I ran into some various frustrating problems.

VM Specs: Base Memory: 1024 MB. Video Memory: 32 MB. Storage: 11.00 GB. It is running a Windows 2000 Professional. It runs 16-Bit and 32-Bit but I am well aware this game normally runs in 16-Bit.

The games installed quickly, but Creatures 1 showed absolutely no issues with graphics or running from what I could see. It ran at its normal speed too. But Creatures 2 would open with a hand that appeared to be inside an invisible "box" with an odd mirrored appearance. (Basically it looked like two hands but it was a glitch)

An image can be viewed here in the screenshots section: http://creaturescaves.com/gallery.php?section=Screenshots&view=2260

When I would drag the hand the screen would glitch. If I minimized the screen the glitching would go away but the minute I dragged the hand again the process would start all over. This makes game-play extremely annoying and it has put a halt on my breed making.

Note: I am running the GOG.com version of the game. I am not entirely sure how well it runs on older machines as I do not have a (real) older machine that I can test it on.

Sorry if my description is not the best. Its hard to describe this stuff.

Hopefully there is a fix/explanation for this, otherwise I will not be able to create breeds for C2 as I will never be able to test or enjoy what I've made. And I am not versed in making breeds for C3 or DS. So I may not be able to contribute anything without the "know-how" or understanding to do so.

Thank you for reading!

Does the remastered patch work with your virtual machine?

Yes, I added it before but the glitch remained. But I will note, it did mention something about editing/replacing the .exe files. Which I don't have any replacements for.

It also said this when I closed the game:

"The instruction at "0x10001038" referenced memory at "0x01324450". The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate the program

What does that even mean? I'm so confused, it looks like an important code.

I installed direct x 9 and the message stopped but the hand is still looking weird and the choppiness has not let up. I have looked everywhere for info on this. I wonder what's causing it. It seems to be a strange glitch or whatever it is.
