I got a handmade Norndoll, whom I've named Minty, from the user, Alien, in a giveaway earlier this year, but I've recently noticed the head sewing has come loose, and I'm scared it might fall off. Does anyone here have any suggestions? I'm no good at sewing myself, could I try superglue or something? I don't want a headless Norndoll! [nscared]

Also, I believe the sewing has come loose due to age; I've had Minty on the shelf pretty much all the time, and from what I have gathered, he is over ten years old according to archives of Alien's website.

Isn't that what mothers (or grandmothers) are for? :) Despite being old enough and ugly enough, mine still repairs by clothes! I'd also avoid using superglue! It sounds messy and could wreak havoc with poor Minty's fur.

I'm not too sure about asking my mum, I'm not even sure we have any thread! Is fabric glue any good?

Fabric glue is -better- but it could still stain. In fact, when I've used it, I think it always stained. Sewing it back up is about the only thing that will make Minty good as new, unfortunately.

If that's the case I'll try asking my mum if we have any sewing needles and thread. One of the stitches was actually loose when he arrived in the post, so it's probably down to age. Thanks Kezune. :)

You can always try with some random scrap fabric to help you practice before you try it on your norndoll. A dish rag or even an old pair of socks will work in a pinch. :)

I recommend practice, then stitching him up. Super glue can melt certain fibers (found that out the hard way!) and fabric glue most often stains. I have to sew up my little angel norn too.

My mum said she'd sew his head back on. It is a bit of a shame though, I could have attached the head onto a stick and made it peer over people's' garden fences to freak them out! [nlaugh]

I have to second the practice suggestion. :) I've fixed old dolls before I really knew about sewing and I had to redo the stitching again later. Spykkie and Darby have more experience than me, though. Darby, can you recommend any particular stitches?

Edit: Ninja'd. :P

Good to hear! Aren't mums great? To recommend a stitch, definitely either a mattress stitch or a ladder stitch for sewing heads.
