I'm running a c2 world, and used the Canny and Nova Subterra sperm packs to inseminate my starting pool of three females, then a bit later repeated with all the females in the world at that point. One of the resulting offspring was a norn-ettin hybrid (the sperm pack uses random norn, ettin, or grendel genes) a female ettin with everything below the neck being pixie norn. I called her Pretty, and stuck her with the rest of the creatures wandering the surface of albia (isolated from the rest with button locks so that no creatures go near the insta-crash zone near the volcano)
For some reason, any norns she is around start calling themselves by her name after a while. I first noticed a norn calling itself 'PrePre' then quickly noticed more and more calling themselves Pretty (including at least one of the three norns I just uploaded). What's going on? |

They all obviously wish they were her, and are just biting...
Seriously though... That's pretty interesting... Have you ever seen her call other creatures Pretty? Maybe she learned strangely, like she thinks 'pretty' is the word for norn, and calls others that...

That's a good idea. I'll isolate her with another norn (that goes by it's own name) and see how they interact. Maybe I'll make a copy of her too, and anyone who fancies can see if her memetic ability carries over into other worlds. |

Did you teach the other norns their full vocabulary? It could be that they don't know the word for "norn" so when they see Pretty use her name in a sentence they think it means "norn" rather than her actual name. |

It's definitely their name they change rather than their word for norn. They all got auto-vocab'd, and all know the word norn, I watched both the norns and Pretty saying 'norn' plenty. They haven't heard me saying Pretty either, I don't call the creatures by name, just give general commands and reward whoever does whatever, and leave them to their own devices without talking to them at all once I've got more than a handful.
I collected all the Pretty norns up and took some pictures, there were seven in total. I then isolated Pretty with some non-Pretty norns (and for good measure one of the previously Pretty norns after re-registering it's name to get it back to what it should have been) for an hour. The effect seems to have stopped, bizarrely. Either it was only temporary or I broke it somehow when I exported her to make a copy. I'm totally baffled. |
