Ecology, broken agents and other issues

Hi!

I've got the Creatures Exodus pack installed, and I gotta say its pretty exciting seeing such an active forum for the games still around! :)

I had a few questions about things though.

I found the C3 Spaceship Repair Tool, and it looks amazingly useful, but it doesn't seem to work with C3 Docked worlds. I recently had a world get borked because some agents (including machines) were autokilled and the ecology was going a bit wonky (So many birds and butterflies, oh my god). I was wondering if there's a DS friendly equivalent, or if it can be made work with DS.

The other thing I was wondering is about ecological maintenance in general. Back in the day I used to use Gaia to maintain my ship, but I tried installing her and I think because C3/DS has unlimited or super quick replenishing bioenergy or something she was just creating heaps and heaps of critters - and then got exported by the population control applet.

I want a bit of balance though. Even without gaia or extra food plants installed I have so many critters spawning that they are literally eating my norns out of house and terrarium. (For example, the carrot patch wont grow back because the birds eat the seeds too quickly. I had to sit there with a box of carrot seeds clicking on it about 50 times before the birds went away and a couple of carrots sprouted).

I have a recollection of having a lot of trouble maintaining the ecology of the ship back in the day and having all kinds of machines set up to reinject fish into the aquarium and set off the volcano and so on. I've installed the various script fixes from this site and vampess's site though and they seem to be doing their job a little too well maybe?

How do people go about making sure their norns have enough food, but you aren't overrun with critters?

My wolfling run only lasted about 5 hours before I had norns starving to death and so many agents were broken I couldn't actually do much other than export them all to put into a new world. It was a tad frustrating and I'm hoping theres a solution out there that I've just not found yet.

The ecology in C3/DS can be a nightmare to manage. Critters and Creatures tend to eat up everything! I'm not sure about your question regarding the C3 Spaceship Repair Tool. However, have you ever considered using the Garden Box? It allows you to create patches of different plants anywhere you like, and these automatically grow back at intervals that you specify. It basically removes the need to worry about food sources! You can use it sparingly to provide just a few places for food, or create lush worlds where Norns can find food everywhere!

Hopefully others will have more ideas for you, particularly regarding the broken agents!

The carrots need something like Moe's Heater to survive through the winter months - it gets too cold for them. Have you turned off toilet control? Having the detritus there gives the critters something to eat that's not food.

There's an add-on for Amai's Magic Words called "Kill Half" - I think by Geek2Nurse - which allows you to remove half of any class of animal/critter/whatever. In fact, it's in the downloads section. Obviously a work-around rather than a fix, but might be useful for non-wolfling worlds.

Hi everyone!

Thanks for the tips.

I've downloaded Gardenbox but haven't actually tried playing with it yet. It looks complicated at first glance, but I read the beginner guide today and I think I can handle it.

I'll grab Kill Half too because it will be *very* useful.

I had no idea the carrots might have been dormant. That makes sense actually. The critter overabundance was probably just a parallel issue. I'll import that garden gnome and pop him back in the carrot patch. He's handy and will tell me the season.

How do I turn off toilet control? I looked on the wiki but couldn't see any information I could understand.

Push the buttons CTRL+SHIFT+C, then type in the following:

meta 5 1 1 1

and push Enter/Return, and CTRL+SHIFT+C again.

That will take you to a place that looks like:

If you click the white thing in this room, the spot will change from red to green - do this once, and critter dung will be visible in the rooms. To get out of this room, just click on any of the room icons at the top.

o_0 That's... very odd! Do you know what the other bits do?

The part labelled 'morning' tells the time of day in your world. :)

Thanks for your help with that.

I shall try it out. I'm loving gardenbox too.
