I'm thinking about using Amai's autotab.cos and recording and/or streaming the output from the wolfling run. I've got a Twitch account but would need to get some other software to work with it to stream. (Actually, I've got a Livestream account somewhere, but I haven't done anything with that for ages.) A while ago, I experimented a bit with Bandicam and it seemed to work OK, but I don't know if it's worth £18 to be able to record more than 10 minutes of video.
Does anyone have any particular setups/software that they use, or have any recommendations? Any warnings about potential problems that may surface? |

I use Open Broadcaster Software and can't really complain about performance concerning the software. I still can't stream for sith because my internet connection is just terrible, but I'm fairly sure that has nothing to do with OBS. It's open source and there's a lot of guides out there on how to configure it properly.
Edit: Forgot to say, you can just record whatever you're doing until you run out of space on your hard disk drive or stream right away and optionally save that file on your HDD while you record it. |

I shelved out the cash for the full version of Bandicam recently. It's really only worth it if you're planning on recording more than 10 minutes at a time. I tend to lose track of time, and have nearly ruined some videos when I realized I had a few seconds before I needed to click some buttons!
Streaming live has never worked for me, though that's likely just my computer. I tried out XSplit for awhile, but it never worked too well for me. Maybe that's something to consider, though! I still prefer Bandicam, though that's my opinion. It's pretty easy to understand, meaning it has enough controls to let you customize a few things without having pages and pages of options.
I'd be interested to hear what works for everyone! I highly doubt I'll give streaming a go, but it would be nice to know what seems to work best. Hope you get it up and running soon!

I had a go with XSplit Gamecaster, but couldn't get it to run on my computer at all. Just managed to successfully stream with OBS to Twitch, but it really knocked the stuffing out of the computer, which isn't fast! OBS has the option to just record though, so I may go that route. Thanks for the input! |

Yeah, I do exactly that since my connection doesn't allow me to stream reliably, anyway. Unless it's something that really puts no strain on my engine at all, I just record it and upload it at a later point after editing the videos a bit.
I never really considered the fact that it might be due to OBS that I can hardly stream at all, though. Maybe I'll try around with a different software at some point and see if the situation improves, since while I can run a lot of games on Project 64 with a live stream without a problem (even without messed up sound!), it already starts to stagger when I do games that really don't have any system requirements to speak of. |

To be fair, both OBS and XSplit recommend an i5, and I've got nowhere near that (7-year-old quad core!) I'd assumed XSplit not running was something to do with that. OBS looks to be quite tweakable though, if you need to adapt it for low bandwidth or lower framerate. |

Absolutely, and it works brilliantly for low action games in which there isn't a whole lot happening at once. But as soon as I'm forced to crank up the frame rate, things are starting to go downhill. And my specs are by no means bad, about a year ago, this PC was probably considered high end.
For example, I remember trying to stream Skyrim once. To be fair, it already had a couple of graphical enhancements at that point, but I don't think it would've made a difference if they hadn't been there. The recording was actually just fine, no problem whatsoever, really. But I also had my twitch channel open on my laptop to see how things are going, and, well, to sum it up in one word: bad. Every minute or so, it would show a couple of seconds of (lagfree!) footage, only to freeze completely with the sound sometimes still in the background, and then comes back after a bit - and the same thing happens again. Went through Bleakfalls Barrow that way, and some poor sap was even watching me. I still feel kind of bad for wasting that persons time. |
