I posted on the CC NG2 listing about my difficulty in purchasing NG2 from Chaos Created: they require a DS ID to complete the purchase! I was advised to try the email listed on their site. The response I received is curiously clueless: "I don't believe that the product will work without a DS ID. I'm away in Spain visiting family but will investigate when I get back, but I'm pretty sure it requires an existing ID to authenticate." I have responded by pointing out that the game is still playable with an offline patch, that if the purchase requires an unobtainable ID it shuts out anyone who came to the game franchise after the DS server went dead, and suggested that the requirement be removed. I also offered to put her in touch with more knowledgable longtime players than I if she needs further information Posting this as a heads up in case anyone reading this might also be considering this purchase. I will update when I get a further response. |

Cheers - did you get in touch with Alistair? I think that in this case, the product the email refers to could be NG2 - it needs a password (linked to your DS id) to run. My TCR Norns |

Not sure, the email was signed Ali, and yes it is NG2 I am trying to purchase. So you are saying only players who got DS back when the server was up can run NG2? If that is the case then having it for sale on their website is pointless. Disappointing. |

I looked at the code of NG2 (the PW system is integrated into the agent file as CAOS). The password is not directly linked to your DS ID. Actually it seems to check for the first letter of your world's ingame name. When you use one of the common offline patches, that name defaults to "Hand". Just ask him to send you the H-password after purchase and it *should* work fine. ...actually not too clever... When you open the options menu, you can rename your hand as well... If I decided to be called "Daddy" or "God" by my creatures and not "Papriko" (or using the patch "Hand" ), it would completely change the password I need. Not the best system in the world. Thanks, Papriko, I will keep that in mind if I ever get to purchase it. The problem here is not the password, it is that their cart checkout system requires the DS ID to complete the purchase, effectively shutting out anyone who started playing creatures after the server went defunct. They should be able to change that in their cart setup. As I understand it, The DS server has been out for a long time, you would think this issue would have come up before now. They have probably missed a lot of sales. |

I contacted a few people at all available e-mail addresses a few years ago and never heard back. It was mostly to see if they would consider having a sale for the CCSF, though I had no idea of the other issues. I've never purchased any of these add-ons due to the astronomical price tags: When the base game is much less than an add-on, I usually don't jump in to buy it. Hope that you have some luck working through some of the technical issues with Ali! |
