Hi everyone!
Me, Tarilithina and Spykkie need help on one thing. As some of you may know, we are working in the making of a new Norn specie, a Weeping Norn. Our doubt is, we need them to have the arms raised - like when they laugh, but without the laughing sound - for example if they are scared or just standing, however we are not quite sure how to make them do so. The only thing we know is that it may require to tinker in body data, but we need to know how to do it.

Thank you for your attention.

There are two ways to go about this, depending on what type of breed you're making. Is this designed to be a genetic breed, or a breed with all new sprites? I recommend only messing around with sprites and body data if you're truly making a new breed with all new sprites: Nothing against people who recolored breeds and installed those sprites, but we have limited breed slots as it is! If it's possible to achieve via genetics, I always recommend that route. Plus, changing the sprites and body data can cause other issues (I have so much fun messing around with this stuff in C1! Only not...)

You should be able to achieve this by changing the pose genes. What you need to do is determine which pose(s) will require the change in arm position. It should then come down to just changing a few numbers in the pose string. I figured out how to do this in Creatures 1, and although C3/DS has more poses, it shouldn't be impossible!

Of course, I could just be completely wrong over here and have someone with better ideas post! But hopefully this gets you started on the right path: If it's a genetics route, I think I have a couple of resources that might be able to help you out!

We are making a breed with new sprites, to make them look like Weeping Angels. However, this shouldn't change the arm shapes too much, just making them a bit thinner.

I didn't realize you could actually change the poses themselves through the genetics. Even if it turns out that we can't do that here, it would be useful to know how to do it in the future. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah, genetically you should even be able to just copy the details in pose genes, so if you find the pose with the arms raised you want, you can just copy that string to whichever other poses you wanted to change, like the scared one, or the normal standing one.

EDIT: Yeah, they are in the genetics, which is pretty cool, this way, you can make new poses for a dance gait in a new breed for example, or a new angry gait, or just a different pose for when they are hitting (maybe a norn that kicks instead of hitting with the hand) or a different pose scared of something... Hardmen are a good example of this, they have a pose that is sort of like how a drum major kicks his legs up in a parade, that they use during their dance or in their angry walking gait. This way the game can pass off these kinds of unique behaviors genetically, and mix them with others.

Well... actually is both. It's going to have genetics to mimic Weeping Angels ( monster from Doctor Who which only move when they are not being observed), and also a texture change to make them similar.
Okaayy, at first all that sounded difficult - but don't worry, it was helpful! I need Tarilithina to see this ( and possibly Spykkie too), since she is in charge with the genetic part, but I can give her a hand.

EDIT: Ninja'ed xD

Very nice! It still might be easiest to copy the order of sprites and body data coordinates from a base breed so you're not creating too much extra work. Evolnemesis had a great idea about just copying the pose string from a pose you'd like to use, and pasting that in the pose gene that needs to change!

This Gameware article looks really short and somewhat confusing, but it helped me immensely. Experiment with a few changes, and you'll likely get the hang of it! At least for C1, I can also test out certain poses in Norn Pose to see what they'll look like. That's how I found one problematic pose that isn't too noticeable, but is still something I'll like fix in a genetic update at some point.

Best of luck!

Would a pose guide help at all?

I think we will have to alter the body data to account for wings, but we shouldn't have to change anything beyond the torso too much.
As for the pose string, I think those links will be really helpful. I should be able to just change the arms in the poses for running and being scared, which sounds pretty simple. Thanks, guys!
