I'm using Mac OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) with Java 6, but I can't seem to get Jagent to work. Whenever I try to open Edos or Monk nothing happens. According to the Mac Agenteering guide on Home Sweet Albia, there's supposed to be an "empty window that appears" when you open Edos, but from just double-clicking the app in Finder, no window pops up. I'm not too familiar with Java apps—is there some extra step I'm missing to get these puppies to run? Any help advice would be greatly appreciated! |

Not sure how it is with Mac, but on linux you sometimes have issues that Java files are not marked as executable. Try to right-click on the jagent files, go to properties (or Mac equivalent) and see if you can find a checkbox saying something like "may be be exectuted as program" or "may be run as executable" or something like that. Make sure it is checked for all the .jar files.

There wasn't a Mac equivalent of "may be executed," but your suggestion about the .jar files led me to actually look for the .jar files, and I got it to work! Edos and Monk are packaged as .app files in the OSX download, but I had to open the actual .jar files to run the apps. Thanks for your help Papriko!
Here's how I did it for future reference:
1. Download, unzip, and open the Jagent folder.
2. Right-click the Edos (or Monk) app and select "Show Package Contents".
3. Open the "Contents" folder.
4. Open the "Resources" folder.
5. Open the "Java" folder.
6. Double-click "Edos.jar" (or "Monk.jar" ). |
