I am learning my way around C3-DS, have a couple of nice families going. Now I am ready to adopt some new creatures from CC, trying to grasp all these different breeds. If I download a Norn from the adoption page but do not have all the breeds/sprites involved, what happens? Is it just an appearance issue?
Some of the ones I want involve the mall breeds that are no longer available and I understand we are prohibited from asking for them), so I am wondering what will happen if I just put them in my game anyway. Will they just not look right or am I risking crashing my game? |

If you import a creature, but you have no sprites matching the slots it uses for any/all body-parts, the game will just substitute those body-parts with installed sprites. So, if you are just adopting creatures you should have no problems other than a different appearance.
if you are installing new breeds though, it depends, if they have new sprites, the breed will come with them... if they use game/mall-breed sprites, then they won't come with them, and you might get an error message dialog in game when you try to lay an egg of that breed about not being able to find sprite files or glyphs... However, the eggs should still work, and the game will just substitute the appearance with sprites that it has installed.
If you have the GOG.com version Exodus/Albian Years, then before installing any new breeds or agents, I would recommend getting the Creatures Remastered Patch, which fixes a lot of errors with installing agents into the game.

Thanks so much for this info, now I'm going shopping for new babies. :-) I have Exodus from Amazon but I do have the remaster patch. So far so good. |

Yeah, I meant Exodus or Albian Years, I got mine from GOG.com so I still associate it with them, but yeah the patch would apply to your game... Glad to hear it, have fun adopting

On a related note, I installed the Yellowstone breed. Pretty teal and yellow, but in my game the first one, male, came out all shades of gray. He mated with a female Apple Norn, and their son is gray except for Apple red arms.
I am using Exodus purchased from Amazon, I have the remastered patch. Does the Yellowstone breed have some dependency on another? Nothing is mentioned in the download. |

Does the grey breed look sort of like this one here? If it does then you already have a breed installed in the Yellowstone's breed slot According to this site here They share a breed slot. Sp maybe try try a breed unistaller to uninstall the Dodgy breed, and then hatching a new Yellowstone egg.

Yes, that is it exactly. I do have Dodgy Norns, have not hatched any yet, and I would rather have the Yellowstones.
Stupid Googlechrome is refusing to download the breed installer on the link you gave me, insists it will harm my computer. This is BS, right?

Since Chrome is being a jerk, maybe try overwriting the Dodgy Norns body data/images with the Yellowstone ones? And if that doesn't work then try fussing with the breed uninstaller.

I have used the breed uninstaller twice. I reinstalled the Yellowstone breed agent twice. I have logged out of the game twice. Both egg layers still show Dodgy Norns available, and both produce Yellowstone eggs that hatch a gray norn.
I am not clear on how to directly overwrite the dodgy norn files, how do I identify them?
EDITED TO ADD: Hmm I think maybe this is my problem? The SeeYou7.net site says about Dodgy Norns "With the C1toDS Metaroom the race is automatically installed in Geat slot Y. Any previously installed on this slot races are overwritten without confirmation."
I have C1to DS on the world I was testing, so maybe this means every time I fireup that world it is overwriting the Yellowstone slot back to Dodgy?
I will try it on a non C12ds world. |

Overwriting the files is pretty easy. Download the Yellowstone's body data/images from here and put the two folders you just downloaded into your main DS folder. Assuming your on a Windows computer, you should get a message about merging two folders and then another message that looks like this one. Click the checkbox on the bottom, and then click move and replace. The next Yellowstone/Dodgy Norn you hatch out should look like a Yellowstone.
Edit: I don't know why your antivirus would be blocking the download. I don't see how body data or image files could even be seen as trojans. O.o

I figured out why, I was clicking on the wrong thing on that page. (I have 5 people yakking it up on skype in my ear, distracting me, lol). The overwrite seems to have gone ok, so as soon as I can switch back to 16bit and test it I will let you know how it worked. Thanks for your patient help. :-)

It's no problem. It seems like most download sites try their hardest to hide the real download links anyway.

Yay it works now! I hatched two beautiful Yellowstones. The Egglayers still offer the Dodgy norn, and when I clicked on it, it said "installing", so I clicked out of it. i will just have to remember not to use them. |
