ISO playful Grendels

I hope I'm posting in the right place! I'm looking for either a breed I can download or someone who can very patiently explain to me how or what to tweak to result in a playful Grendel who is still Grendel-like. "Friendlier" is ok, but I'm not looking for one that is basically an ugly Norn :P

In my C3/DS game, a random Grendel egg (just an out of the box Grendel, no Grendel-related additions or modifications of any kind on my part) gave me this awesome, playful, happy guy. He played with EVERYTHING, straight out of the egg, and was always...smiling?? You know that happy face they make, right? I brought him some toys and he was happy playing with those in the jungle, carrying them around, etc. He would hit ettins who approached him, but he didn't leave his habitat and didn't hunt anybody down.

I could have kicked myself when he died of old age and I hadn't thought to export or clone him. I've been waiting for another Grendel like him to pop up but, it hasn't happened yet. I checked the breeds for download but none of them sound like just what I'm looking for, though it's possible I'm overlooking something. Any ideas are appreciated! Thank you!

Make sure the area does not smell like norn. Even a faint note makes them angry. Then it might work out.

Do you still have the world he was in? I'm not sure if grabbing his genetics is exactly what you'd like to do, but you should be able to find his moniker in the graveyard and locate it in your directory. Other than that, Papriko's suggestion works! There are a lot of other ways to make a playful/friendly Grendel, but hopefully that will help get you started!

Once I was able to keep 2 norns and 1 grendel together in peace by constandly feeding them and keeping them in a room with a good amounts of plants n stuff.
They just turned hostile when I tried adding an ettin, but they directly reverted back to their peaceful state once the ettin was smacked to death. The weird part about it is that not only the Banshee, but also the 2 Siamese punched the heck out of the ettin...

Tried it 2 or 3 times, every time the same thing. Peaceful till I add the ettin, crush ettin, become peaceful again.

The grendels and norns still have instincts to hit anyone nearby when crowded and hit each other when angry, and they were probably feeling crowded and angry a lot being around each other, but they learned to not like hitting each other, because it makes the one they hit more angry and makes them want to fight back, and fighting hurts...

that ettin was just the best way they saw to get out their aggression without getting hurt (ettins don't get angry easily, and i don't think they have any instincts to hit to deal with anger anyway, just crowding, and no instincts at all to hit norns or grendels specifically...) Once the ettin realized things were not okay, and that maybe it should do something, it was probably halfway dead... either way, all it would want to do is run anyway.

I had a banshee grendel in my world that was quite nice, and lived with my norns without much incident, it occasionallly would get hit (good thing banshees are tough), but never attacked any norns, it even told the norns to 'hit grendel' if they complained about being angry.

I don't still have the world :( Unfortunately it is one of the first I started and I messed it up pretty good playing around with everything (I'm definitely the learn-by-doing type).

That is a great point about norn scent, I didn't think of that! I will try that, thank you!

I feel bad for the ettins, I love them but they're pretty much walking punching bags for anyone having a bad day.

To find norn scent (and do many other funny things), this baby will be a huge help. I sometimes use it myself to check for certain scents and mess with room types n all.

Thanks, that is a very helpful tool!
Having a non-Norn scented environment has been a BIG help. They are definitely happier!
