C2 crashing when egg hatches?

So, I've got The Albian Years installed and every time one of my Norns lays an egg, I either let it hatch on its own or put it in the incubator. Simple enough, right?

The problem is that, after hatching naturally, the baby Norn usually dies immediately and the game crashes. If I put the egg in the incubator, the egg will start to hatch, but then the game will crash.

I Googled it and this Gameware Development page suggests I "find a similar genfile in the genetics folder and copy it to that name." I'm not too proud to admit that I'm not entirely sure what it's saying I should do. :/

I do have the Creatures Remastered patch, and everything else in my game seems to be running smoothly.

Anyone else have this problem? What can I do? :(

Fire, walk with me."

They make it sound so easy, don't they? :) I can't give specifics on C2 genfiles because I never play the game, but there are things you can check.

Does the crash happen with any and every egg? Or are you just restoring the world and trying to hatch the same egg again? If the latter, freeze the egg (pick it up at least once to pause the incubation process) and put it somewhere, then see what happens with the egg from the next pregnancy to occur; it may be just the one egg that's got mangled genetics and is the problem.

If it's happening with every egg, export all your live creatures and reset the world. It sounds like something's got corrupted somewhere; C2 is notoriously glitchy.

The game is crashing because it is having problems with the egg's genetic file, I've had that happen a lot of times before. Either the egg has mutations that are causing the game to crash, or like your link said, the game can't find the genetic file it needs to hatch the egg.

If the game is crashing because mutations in the egg, then there is not much you can do other than keep that egg from hatching or somehow delete that egg to make sure it won't accidentally hatch & crash the game. The game was known to crash like that with some grendel or ettin hybrids made with the splicing machine.

If it's a missing genetic file causing the game to crash, you'll have to do a lot more digging around in the program folders themselves, & at I don't have enough time to detail what you'd have to do fix that. I might be able to detail it tomorrow if you still need the info & if no one else has helped you with it by then.
