Let me start by saying Im playing DS I have gotten the dragon norns and the aqua dragon update, here is my problem:
as far as I know I have updated the .GNO files correctly placing them in the correct files BUT when hatching Dragon norns with this new gene set even if its in a new world they never seem to have the ability to swim even when using the NG swimmer agent as the files for the aqua dragons say to do we know if it is broken genes or something similar. on top of this not only do they not swim but after trying again and working on paying close attention to the game and waiting until the creature is an adult which should make it rather hearty and able to breath water and swim Ive noticed that the way they die is by drowning why would aquatic creatures and especially ones that are supposed to be hearty drown another thing that may be feeding into this is the fact that water is cold I would guess but I know that there used to be an agent that would let heat be transferred via water but I cannot find it anymore I wonder if it is simply lost or if someone knows where I could get it

You mentioned copying the .GNO files - its the .GEN files that you want. May I ask what version of DS you have? If it's the Exodus version you'll need to copy all of your downloaded files to C Users\Username\Documents\Creatures\Docking Station instead of the folder located in your program files. |

C-Rex is right, .gen are genetic files. The .gno ones only contain labels and comments for genes when you open them in a genetic editor.

Im not sure Ill have to check I actually just upgraded to windows 8.1 and havent reinstalled everything yet but that is the problem I was having with windows 7
*EDIT
after checking its the gog version exodus, and the path listed there does not exist there is no creatures file in the documents folder

There should be a Creatures folder located somewhere in My Documents, unless you did a more custom install. The GOG.com version usually splits up the files between My Documents and Program Files.
You also mentioned the Heat in Water Transfer, which can be found here. Maybe that will help?
There are also a few swimming agents out there, some more up-to-date than others. It might be worth it to look into getting a newer one, but I've never used the Aqua Dragon Norns, so I can't be sure that's anything.
How are you hatching the eggs, by the way? Via Muco, or through the Genetics Kit?

after going into My documents from several different directions I found that yes there is a creatures folder in there and it does have a genetics folder but its mostly empty and even the breeds that were installed via the old mall installers are not there but instead are in the old install path that I would have used before the gog version
anothing thing I noticed is that there isnt an agents folder in there so does that mean that I need to install agents in the normal path and genetics in the other?
thank you so much for the heat in water this will help alot as the dragons need it a good bit hotter than normal norns
and they are being laid through muco I used to have a portable egg layer but that item seems to have vanished from the net and it seems I dont have a back up any more

You might find some other ideas in my reply to this post. It should explain the My Agents folder missing, as you should either find another directory in My Documents or Program Files.
A portable egg layer sounds vaguely familiar. If you don't find it soon, perhaps posting in the Lost Download Detectives topic will help you find it? Good luck!

it seems to use them from both places is what I dont understand as there are genetics folders in both locations that have items in them though the one in documents had only a text document at first though that could be because of the installers for the other breeds I have from the mall
and the new issue Im having is that C12DS seems to have glitched on install because one of the agents that installs when the room does glitches almost instantly and I dont have the exact error message because Im in the middle of uninstalling and getting ready for a fresh install which helped in win 7 when things went crazy after an install though I think part of My problem is that I didnt install anything by right clicking and running as an admin

Did you already install the Creatures Remastered Patch? That could possibly cause problems with C1toDS not installing correctly.
With the multiple folder locations, I usually figure out which one is used within the game and just move everything over to it. For instance, catalogue files install themselves to the wrong folder for me, so I have to quit and move them before they can be used in-game. Kind of a pain, but I'm used to it!
If you do a complete reinstall, I recommend installing to My Documents. You'll still end up with the split install (like me) but I found it's easier to deal with than with folders under Program Files.

I've installed mine to a folder called "Creatures" in My Documents, and I haven't had the split install problem for quite a while. That might also be because I'm using the Gog install, or the remastered patch though. I second the patch, I think it comes with a My Documents fix?

OH heres another something Ive noticed I think the room is chione but it always installs empty with no lifts or anything though when I see other peoples screen shots of it its full of icy plants and lifts if I remember correctly Im wondering if I only have part of it or just what

Chione's current release is empty: What you likely see are people installing Garden Box agents, other agents, elevines, etc. to customize the room. Grendel Man recently posted an update for Chione, but it fixes a few mapping bits. The ecology part is still in the works.

ah alright thank you very much
and Ive done some more testing with the aqua dragons today and I think there is something flawed in their water breathing genes but I dont know enough about tweaking genes to be able to fix it or even how to open the gen and gno files to check them either
along with this Im wondering if people are still teaming up to make rooms and how I would go about that if they are as Ive done many mock rooms based on the ccsf tutorial from a few years ago on how to actually make the room in photoshop but I dont have to tools for the remainder of it
and this error is new to me as well

That error looks very similar to one reported by Nutter near the bottom of this topic. It might correspond with the Water Weedgrass in Aquatilis Caverna. Think that could be it? The classifications line up nearly perfectly, aside from the unique ID.
You might want to check out the Development Forum, where you'll find all sorts of projects in the works. New metaroom ideas usually pop up there, and you're welcome to post a new topic if you have an idea you'd like to find others to work on with you!
They might not be your cup of tea, but the Colortrue Pearl Mermaid Norns have a lot of aquatic updates. The Readme provides more information, should you be interested in taking a look. Just a thought!

thank you very much Im always looking for new aqua breeds though right now Im wanting to work with the dragons as they are by far my favorite breed and they used to work great both in their basic form and also in the aquatic version when I had the basic version before I started using the gog version honestly Im also wondering if this could have anything to do with not having the norn garden aqua norns installed as I believe the aqua norns use part of their genome but as they have their own gen and gno files I would think that they would come with all they need I also kinda wonder if there isnt something in their genetics that says that their water breathing abilities only kick in at a specific age
