Distinguishing Levels in a Metaroom

I recently began my Colortrue Gaius world after months and months of waiting! I am using Random's Room, which has the perfect sort of atmosphere! My one issue is how to distinguish where a Gaius is actually located when I take screenshots. KittyTikara recently mentioned this, and I can certainly see the issue. Every level is nearly identical, even with a different array of objects. I'm going to be posting a video (hopefully today) to give a better idea of how I have everything laid out.

Are there any ideas for how I could possibly distinguish levels? It's almost like I need to change the color of the background on different levels, though that's not really an option (I don't think). I might have to resort to posting numbers in screenshots to indicate which level is pictured. That's not a terrible idea, but I wanted to see if anyone had ideas that might be achieved via CAOS or add-ons.

Thanks for any help!

The Garden Box has some decorative agents, but I'm not sure how useful any of them would be. If all else fails, you could create your own backdrop agents. Probably one of the simpler agents to make as long as you set the plane and ATTR correctly.

I've seen the Garden Box windows used to good effect. The only other idea that springs to mind is to use the tint command on groups of objects, to give a colour theme to each level - though I'm not sure if that's easy to do without coding an agent for it.

I made an agent. Let me know if it's any use.

Ylukyun, that is awesome! I'll certainly have to give it a try in a copy of my main world. I'm thinking this will solve everything, provided I don't decide to use too many! Thank you so much for it! I'll report back once I've tested it out. Even if it doesn't work for this dilemma (which I think it will help in some way) I can see some other uses for it. Very clever idea!

I hope so Jessica! Good idea to try it in a copy, I didn't test it very thoroughly.

Seems to working quite well for me, though I haven't exhausted my testing! I have a couple of thoughts/suggestions, though these are mainly just my own personal tastes. Not sure if they're helpful, but this is an awesome agent!

- Would there be a way to lock the color in place so that the backdrop isn't accidentally changed? (Maybe that's where the Garden Box conversion would come in.)
- The 100px x 100px size is great for smaller areas, but I would be using a ton of them to fill in each level. I had a couple of thoughts (which may or may not be possible):
1.) Have the backdrop be able to fill in an entire room.
2.) Make it look like the Garden Box windows (with the same border) , so that only a couple would be needed per level as markers that would blend in with any other window elements.
3.) If it is possible to make it like a Garden Box window, maybe have it available in those two different sizes?

Again, just my thoughts! I'm sure this current release will come in handy. I also noticed that there isn't any information on the agent injection screen, nor a catalogue file. Might have been intentional, but I always check because my game just loves to throw stuff in random directories! Thanks again!

Nutter: Forgot to respond to you! I did try tinting the Garden Box windows on each level. I used the Garden Box tint box, which removes any black areas from the object. But I just realized that the actual CAOS tint command might work.

Maybe I'll be able to use both ideas. Thanks so much for the suggestions and agent creation!

I can definitely make the backdrop larger in the next release. In the meantime, if you feel like enlarging it yourself, the sprite file is simplebackdrop.c16. Just replace the single frame with a larger one of the same color (#808080) no need to modify the code. I will also look into being able to lock the color. The Garden Box window lookalike and different sizes will definitely be optional variations provided I don't run into any problems.

As for the catalogue, there simply wasn't one as I forgot to write one.

Awesome, awesome! I made a rather gigantic image (1410px x 200px) as this is about the size of each room in Random's Room. Played around with some colors that will easily set apart each level, and voila! I've got five in a test world right now to see how much it slows down the game. With about eight Creatures in the world, there are a couple of half-second stutters a few times each minute, but nothing that would make me think the world is unusable. Going to keep it running for awhile and see how things look! I could probably get away with only using four of them, anyway, so I'm sure that will help with the lagginess! Only issue might be with recording video, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Thanks so much for this! It's really just what I was looking for!
