I downloaded from the breeds the Essex norns I don't know if I did it properly. I put toya and randy in the game then randy appeared to be dead on arrival. Could anyone explain how this happened. |

It could be sudden import syndrome.

I assume you're referring to these Essex Norns for C1? What could be happening is a sudden death upon importation, which isn't all too uncommon in Creatures 1. Have you tried importing him again? If all else fails, you should be able to duplicate his genome using the Genetics Kit to create a brand new Norn with the same genetics. Not sure if that's what you're trying to do, but it should allow you to enjoy the genetics without the sudden importation death syndrome. Good luck!

Weird, I never heard of that. How does this happen?
Also Randy could be revived through reunzipping the Essex file all over again or like you said the genetics kit
Yes, I am referring to the Essex norns for C1 .
Also just curious, I tried to put the 40 norns cheat in C2 and now I can't play it. Do you know any possible solution? |

SIDS - sudden import death syndrome - seems to have two main causes: problems with the exp file, and problems with the game engine.
If it's the exp file, it can be due to corruption. But it can also be due to the "state" of the norn when exported - I reduced the incidence of SIDS when I started taking care when I exported norns: I don't export when they're asleep, or in the middle of an action (eating, etc.). I give the game time to process the last action.
That said, sometimes it's just a game glitch - perhaps it's trying to autosave, or it's processing certain other scripts. I've had copies of exp files, imported one and had the norn die of SIDS, then re-import the copied exp file a while later and had it import fine. I just regard it as One Of Those Things, and take backups of favourite norns before re-importing. |

One other possible cause of sudden import death syndrome is the fact that chemical emitters are processed when a Norn is imported. Chris Double made note of this at the bottom of this page.
Nutter's suggestion has worked for me! I try to export when a Norn is just standing there doing nothing, and I avoid pregnant Norns altogether.

Ooh, good link! And Chris Double's site's back up - actually, I think someone mentioned that, but I'd forgotten! |
