C1 norns making friends with Grendels?

Wasn't sure if I should post this in help or not.
I have a Horse Norn named Blondie who seems to have developed a relationship with a grendel. Not sure exactly since I'm playing a wolfling run and not interfering much. But she seemed to run away from it then go back to it as it was sleeping as if to tease it. Also I think she somehow scared it without a grendel scarer (which she used when the grendel was not near her. This is going to be a really stupid question but how dangerous are the grendels to Norns in C1? I don't think I have lost a single Norn to a grendel?

Ah, the age old Creatures 1 Grendel debate! In a lot of the official resources, Grendels were made out to be nasty monsters who could spread disease and injure your Norns. In actuality, they're almost identical to Norns aside from a few instincts and, clearly, their appearance.

I recommend grabbing the Grendel Settings, as you can then bypass the code that forces Grendels to slap others whether they want to or not. With that in place, you should notice how Grendels act quite similarly to Norns!

My C1 Grendels have been some of my favorites. They often have bigger personalities (at least in my mind) and make excellent playmates for Norns. Even with the original script in place, the most damage they do amounts to some slapping... And some of my Norns have been more violent.

It's not a stupid question at all, by the way! C1 Grendels are quite misunderstood, and I originally thought they were nasty and horrible. Perhaps you'll develop a bond with yours and enjoy your Grendels as much as the Norns!

The threat of grendels in Creatures 1 was greatly exaggerated - way back when C1 was new, there were 'equal rights for grendels' movements in the Creatures Community, and there was at least one site devoted to debunking the myth of the dangerous grendel. :)

I wrote an article on the care of C1 grendels, if you'd like to have a look at that. :)

Drop Bear, I would have no problem believing that:) When you read the manual they make it out like the Grendels are unstoppable killing machines.

Checked out your article, Bear. The part on spreading diseases may explain why the Norns went through a brief period of the sniffles. I got the unfortunate privilege of watching an adult norn playing with a baby. Then discovering he had the sniffles and just passed it on to the baby (RIP Rachel II). The adult survived.

I used to be downright terrified of Grendels when I was little. Absolutely terrified! It stayed that way until I found the Creatures community and learned that they're really not that bad. :) In C1 and C2, they're just like gruff, scaly Norns! [nlaugh]

They live up to their fearsome reputation a little more in C3, but they are very much still cousins to the norns. :) If you check out the Ask Laura section, there is many a tale of star-crossed love, even! [nhearts]

Even without Grendel Friendly (Which I use) Grendels are actually pretty docile. Grendels (in my experience) actually seem to be more interested in hanging out on the island.

It's rough to hear that the baby died. It isn't the Grendel's fault, though. Creatures (Even the new ones) were never made to recognize when they were sick and avoid others when they were ill. Grendels are, in this regard, just an extra host for the bacteria to live on. :C

(Psst. The name immediately below the avatar is a Title. Names are the bolded white names over our stars and country flags. I have to admit, it confused me before, too. Still, addressing someone by their title is something I could be down for. :D )

Thanks for reading my article! :) Sorry to hear of the loss of Rachel II - grendels don't spread disease on purpose, but you can combat this by checking on them regularly and healing them (with the same cures as would heal a norn). You can also inoculate creatures by injecting them with antibodies - the first aid kit by Alexander Laemmle has 2 cobs which raise a norn's antibodies to the maximum.

I just returned to C1 and they are hanging out with the grendel. They are also teaching it words.

Kezune, whoops. Just got this account today:P

Thanks for the warning:D

Oh, I didn't intend that as a warning. XD I just remember being confused by titles and names when I first joined. I think I called Malkin "Drop Bear" and ylukyun "Engineer Ettin" more than once. XD

Also, you can edit your replies by pushing the 'pen' shaped icon at the top right of your replies. Enjoy the site. :D

Grendels tend to be quite smart - they are capable of learning just as much vocab as a norn. :)

No only that, I've noticed they require less attention and help surviving.

AlbianPrincess, do you have a blog? You can share your Creatures adventures through it.

C1 grendels aren't any more likely to get sick or spread diseases than the norns, either. :)
