C12DS missing "c1ef.s16" error

This is weird. I don't remember it happening on my old install, and the c12ds installer and patch were among the few things I did have backed up so this should be the same version that was working then.

But I just tried to create a new C12DS world and got this error: (copied from the logfile .txt)

Error in: AgentManager::CreateSimpleAgent
Simple Agent:

Family: 1 Genus: 1 Species: 32337

Gallery: c1ef.s16 First Image: 0 Image Count: 1

Created in plane: 10

SharedGallery::DoCreateGallery

The following sprite gallery was not found:

C:\Users\Owner\Documents\Creatures\Docking Station\Images\c1ef.s16




It let me continue without crashing, and everything looked normal, but what's going on? C3/DS doesn't even use .s16 files as far as I know.

Maybe the coder meant to type c16 and put s16 instead. Could happen.

This is the first time I've tried to make a C12DS world (was doing it from the world switcher, not the agent injector) since reinstalling the game.

You can ignore the .s16 extension... C3/DS automatically looks for .c16 files, but if it can't find one, it will try looking for .s16 next. (C3/DS can use .s16 files, but most creators use .c16 because they're better... smaller file size, etc.) Saying it can't find an .s16 file is just the game's way of saying "I even tried .s16 format and still couldn't find it!"

I'm not sure why it can't find the file, there are different reasons for getting an error like that; it's possible it wasn't unpackaged for some reason, got corrupted, or that it actually is there but the game doesn't recognize it somehow. But I can tell you that it's nothing vital to using the metaroom... it's just the sprite for one of the easter egg type hidden things. Ever heard of Eem Foo...?

If you haven't done so already since the reinstall, you could try installing C1toDS in an existing world using the agent injector, just to see if it helps. There may be a chance that injecting it normally might force it to unpackage that sprite file the way it's supposed to...

Yeah, I think I might still have an export of Eem Foo around somewhere. His .gen file is in the genetics folder, anyway. No idea why the sprite file wouldn't have unpacked (it doesn't appear to be anywhere) when everything else went smoothly.

I hadn't tried going through the injector to install the world itself yet, no (though I've injected the bad plants and lemons into a couple other worlds)- I'll try it.

I finally remembered to try injecting it normally. No dice- the agent fails to install at all because of the missing sprite.

Does anyone have that particular file?
