I recently updated the pearl mermaid norns breed so they would walk more smoothly and have a teenage life stage, but now they crash the game and i can't figure out why...
I really thought i could fix it, but it seems out of my capacities...
What I know:
-I get this error message:
"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
this application has requested a Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information. "
-It's been confirmed to crash on other people's computers.
-Thorough testing located the problem with the female. When a female reaches teen, the game crashes. Sometimes about a minute after she's been walking around as a teen, sometimes before her sprites even change.
-The male didn't cause any problems when testing all ages for him.
Things I've tried to fix it:
-I have tried replacing the female atts with the males' (since they are basically the same either way) in case it was a corrupted att file.
-I have tried replacing her sprites with previous ones, it didn't work.
-I tried replacing her leg sprites with the male's (since he didn't cause a problem) It didn't work.
NOTE: I completly reinstalled my game from scratch before doing these tests, there were no metarooms or agents injected (or even installed) AT ALL during these tests. I did this to rule out the possibility that it was actually an agent causing the bug.
If anyone could help out it would be really great, since I've tried all i could think of to fix it...

The female aging up crashes the game no matter where she stands, so i dont think it's about wall glitching? or at least it didn't look like it at the time...
I don't really remember changing the genetics, but maybe the file got corrupted at some point... i'll give it a try.

I put in the old genetics, made a new world and hatched a new female norn, the game still crashed...

Do you know for certain which body part(s) cause the crash? Not sure from yor posts, since you mention the legs, but only in passing.
If you aren't sure, I might recommend using the Genetics Kit (or something like it) to create about five different Norns, each with a different individual Pearl Mermaid body part, and all their other parts from a breed you can be sure is stable (eg. ChiChi). Like, a ChiChi with a PM head, another with a PM tail, and so on. Testing each of these Norns individually should give you more certainty about where the problem lies; if the one with the PM legs crashes and none of the others do, for instance, you'll know it's specifically a problem with the legs.
The fact that the crash occurs at a variable time--not always right away--suggests it might be certain pose(s) in particular that cause the problem.

If it helps I can describe what happened in my world with them?
I had a male for a while, and decided to hatch a female for him. I was just starting up a world and I wanted to get things going a little faster so I used "targ norn ages 4" on both norns. I had used it on the male several minutes before and he caused no problems.
I used it on the female, but right about when she hit adolescent/youth I noticed an odd thing. Her foot, I don't recall which one, but as she was walking, (if I recall, it looked more like a limp, and she wasn't really moving) it caused a "line of static" that increased in diameter when near the foot. This line spanned the entirety of my screen. While I stared with much confusion, the game crashed and I was forced to close it.
She was standing directly in front of the Muco, so it's not a wall thing. She was alone, and I have no glitchy agents that I know of.
I've never really touched sprites or body data, so I can't really help in any other way than to describe what happened. :/ I hope you figure it out though!

"Line of static"? Wow, that is absolutely bizarre. ![[nscared] [nscared]](/images/smilies/emot_scared.gif)

Yes, similar to a lens flare seen on the sides of the screen in the movie "Super 8".
Except, with static! And... more or less in the middle of the screen. o.O
Example <-- Exactly like that except it was static-y semi-monochromatic "noise", like this. And the round part in the flare pic would be where the foot was.
It was not quite as big as seen in the picture, however...

I thought it might be a leg sprite issue because i changed that one brown shin she had for a golden shin, so i thought that might be glitched... but i tried renaming male shins and giving her that and it still crashed, so those sprites i touches weren't at fault as far as i can tell.
I think making body part test norns would be helpful, but i really don't know my way around with genetics and all that...

Did somebody call for body part testing Norns? Each Norn has only one Mermaid body part, and is named something like Arms-F after what body part has been changed.

Thank you KittyTikara!
It's now confirmed, the legs are causing the problem.

After KittyTikara's test norns (THANK YOU FOR THOSE!!) revealed the problem was in the legs, well, i knew i had to look in the legs.
I'm doing some quick testing right now, I replaced the female teenage feet with the male's and the game didn't crash when i "targ norn ages 4" my test female. She went right up to adult.
I made a second female test norn and aged her to teen and left her there. I'm currently letting them walk around and do what ever they want and the game hasn't crashed yet.
I still have no idea why the teen female feet suddenly started causing game crashes, but apparently they were the cause all along!
No idea why, but nice to know.
I'm considering if i should try to make new teen female yellow feet or just leave them with green feet since this seems to work properly (for now at least)

The game as been running in the background on my computer for... 35 minutes now, with an adult female and a teen female, and it hasn't crashed!
Guess the feet were the only source of the game crashing bug. Impressive how some small sprites can cause so much trouble for no noticeable reason..
My migraine is getting worst, so I'm going to stop working on it for now and go to bed.
If anyone has a theory on why some otherwise completely normal sprite can crash the game, I'd love to hear it!

Who knows? I had crashes with the original adult Dustdevil heads and never was able to solve them... even after re-compiling and re-saving all the sprites multiple times. I never got that weird static thing, though. Sometimes old problems can linger if you don't start a new world to make sure the sprites are "fresh", but other times the game just decides to act funky.

well, the breed doesn't crash the game anymore. I'll be repacking it and sending it to Rascii again for update (Sorry Rascii D: )
only weird thing left is that when facing away their tail (in M tail sprite) Appears behind them instead of infront of them, but that doesn't crash the game so yay!
