Hi, I have been playing creatures for not-so-long, my first hatched norn is named Maria, she is not quite a pensioner yet at age 5 hours 42 minutes. My problem is she won't eat, her medical heart squiggles are weaker looking than it used to, her life force is down to 14% and oddly enough she seems to have forgotten her actual name. She calls herself "Mla," often saying "Mla food"
A picture of Maria
It's hard to isolate her because she constantly has a posy of young norns around her, I've injected energy twice so far. I know death is inevitable but my main question is, is she senile? Thanks in advance ![[nquestion] [nquestion]](/images/smilies/emot_question.gif)
It's only awquard if you make it so.
I am currently only a C1 player, no C2 (and it plays a bit laggy for me), C3 or CDS, but I am awaiting to try C4 |

Her forgetting her name could be due to her getting confused if you were trying to get the attention of another Norn. Sometimes if you repeat another Norn's name in front of another one many times, they seem to have issues with forgetting their own name. You should be able to open up the Owner's Kit and re-register her name: This should solve that problem!
When you say senile, do you mean life stage or state of mind? Senile is a life stage in some of the Creatures games, but it sounds like you're more interested in how she's acting.
In C1, life force is a measure of glycogen, or the long-term energy source. Make sure she eats something soon: Once glycogen reaches zero, death is inevitable.
She seems to aged pretty quickly, though: Most C1 Norns don't reach the elder stages of life until they're somewhere between 8 and 10 hours old. What generation is she?
Perhaps my latest C1 video might help you out? It focuses on caring for multiple Norns, and how to separate one from a group in order to care for him/her.
Hope this helps you out!

Wow fast reply, thanks! She's not a pensioner yet just to clear up confusion, but I thought she was getting old because she was behaving in a senile-like matter, similar to our currently elderly cat(He has kidney disease. Theres water in your fountain AND your bowl Gravy, stahp trying to trip me and drink it!) As I said Maria is "my first hatched norn" so she is gen 1 as far as I'm concerned, though her legs are that of a female banana norn, so that makes me wonder, and there were no Horse Norns in the hatchery. The reset name thing totally worked, thank you! The name thing sounds like it makes sence, there was once a spectacle where everyone was calling everyone else either a Bubby or a George, forgot which. I had to repeat norn a lot. Also I've seen one of your videos before I bought cretures off of GOG.com, very helpful thank you. I'll watch that one and tell you how it works for me.

I think the C1 norns are supposed to be created from one "mom" and one "dad" genome, but I'm not certain about this. |

Verry interesting, Feddlefew. Do you think the DNA of the hatchery norns are randomly generated each time or is it fixed in stone?

Hooray! I practised the "kidnapping" technique with a teleporter and she's eating lots now, I saw her smile! Thank you so much! It's not easy separating her from her posy of followers. Her lifeforce is up to 73% now

Hurray! Glad to hear she's doing much better! Separating C1 Norns is a pain in the neck at times, but the effort almost always pays off when you get a miserable Norn to smile again.
The eggs in the hatchery end up mixing the genomes of one of the six "mum" genes and "dad" genes. This is how you sometimes get mixed breeds in the first generation, or mutations: The genes are combined in the same way that happens when Creatures breed. You might want to check out Kezune's updated C1 genetics: These allow C1 Norns to die of old age, and also still allow for mixed breeds from the hatchery.
To avoid any mixed breeds or genetic mutations in the first generation, you can use the Genetics Kit to lay an egg. But the hatchery does offer more uniqueness! Good luck with everything, and feel free to ask any other questions!

Thanks again Jessica that's some fascinating information, I'll try out those updated genetics

Another odd encounter.. I had previously experienced this weird thing where if my norns went all the way to the right end of the beach island thing the game might freeze every time I went to that moment . I saved on that beach island last session while it wasn't freezing with 2 norns on it. when I re-opened the game, this happened over and over again. I fixed it by viewing another norn not on the island and exited and re-entered, but my new question is does anyone know what that means?

What third-party 'mover' cobs do you have installed?

I think the little cart that goes between the lighthouse and the island can become corrupt. I seem to remember this happening in my C1 worlds loooong ago. I've also had that cart roll into the shower area on its own for no reason and then get permanently stuck there. The world wrap is in the middle of that ocean that the cart goes through, so I suspect that might be why it can be buggy. |

I don't have the attention span required to allow my norns to even reach the senile life stage.

@Malkin: I have one third party mover and it's a hot air balloon from Norntropolis.
@Tarlia: That sounds legit enough for me, I'll believe that.
@Jagotka: none of my norns in C1 are at that really old life stage either, I just thought she was acting forgetfull and unaware of her impending death (my idea of senile,) but apparently most norns surrounded by other norns are like this. I'm sure that even without the attention span creatures are interesting to watch survive. I can't wait to get to the stage where so many generations have passed by, I want to see some genetic mutations!

Do you have the black hole patch installed?

@Malkin: I don't see anything labeld black-hole remover in the zip file of the balloon, I only imported Balloon V2.0.COB, Balloon V2.0.RCB and all the image and sounds into my Creatures 1, none of the other files in the zip. The balloon seems to work fine but I haven't really introduced any norns to it at the moment, I think it just floated off somewhere but there's a button to call it back.
