I've noticed for some reason c3/DS is having a few lagging issues. They aren't major, but upon pressing CTRL-SHIFT-P I can see the world isn't running as efficient as it should. This problem usually occurs when I add a metaroom or two to the world, but the lagging makes no sense as my PC can easily run The Sims2 without issues. Any advice? |

It could be a memory issue. C3/DS can only take advantage of so much memory from what I've seen - it tends to cap around 100MB no matter what is running - whereas The Sims 2 is probably able to utilize much more.
There could also be a bug in one of the metarooms. Is the lag related to, or worse with, any specific metaroom? |

Not really. Is there anyway to make the program utilise more memory? |

Which metarooms are you experiencing trouble with? I know larger metarooms like C2toDS and C1toDS tend to bog things down. And whats the PACE exactly? Before and after injecting these rooms.
Also, make sure there's no transparent things floating "on top" of DS. I have a program called Object Dock by Stardock software that bogs DS down considerably if the window overlaps with the Dock. Same with free version I used to do called RocketDock. DS basically HATES having anything with any sort of transparency on top of it. Even drop-shadows from your open windows or programs will give it a hard time. |

As I said before, it isn't a metaroom issue, although I do have transparency enabled on the windows. |

Hmm. I don't remember seeing it ever go above 100 or so but maybe I'm misremembering that. |

Could be my processor, but that doesn't make sense as I can easily run The Sims 2, which is a far more demanding game. |

How many creatures do you usually have in the world at a time? |

Quite a few, usually around 25, but the lag also occurs in a world only containing the biodome and a few garden box agents. |

Have you used Vampess's bramboo fix? That cuts lag quite a bit.

I have the Bramboo fix installed already, but I'll try cutting the population a bit.
Memory shouldn't be an issue as I have 1256 mb currently installed. |

If you ever do figure out what was causing it, let us know. It may help others someday, or help developers clean up codes and things to run more efficiently. |

I know what you mean. When my computer was working, it could run Skyrim but C3/DS? Laggy. : /
I wish I could offer some real insight. The best I can think of is the memory isn't properly clearing when you shut down the game.

Thanks for the help anyway everyone. I personally think it's a problem with the game itself, seeing as when it was first released most computers weren't that powerful and as a result it isn't able to take advantage of the new technology. |

Yeah, it doesn't handle any multithreading, so if your computer has multiple cores it won't make a difference. It also probably has a cap someplace on the amount of memory it will use at any given time. It also probably doesn't make much of a difference what GPU(graphics card) you have, as any GPU now a-days is 10x what was available back when the game was released.
The game will play better based on 1 factor: How fast is your CPU? That's really the biggest factor I've found. The more Ghz/Mhz, the better. |
