Creatures 4: Social Mode Info

I asked Fishing Cactus on their Tumblr about the Social Mode and this is what I have gotten:

"Hi! Social features are available at all times so strictly speaking, there is no ?social mode? or ?solo-mode?. At any time you are able to send your eggs to a friend. When you receive an egg, it goes in the hatchery machine and from there you are free to hatch it, discard it or send it to someone else.

Hope this clarifies it a bit!"

I wonder - if this social interaction is always going on, would that require you to be on a wi-fi network at all times to play? If so, that could be a problem for some iOS devices...

I kind of liked being able to play off and online though. It seems that isn't a choice.

It's been stated by Fishing Cactus that a constant internet connection is needed to play Creatures 4. I'm not sure if that applies to just the desktop version, but I would imagine it would have to also be true for iOS devices. Which is why I still prefer my good ol' offline games... Then I know I can play out in the middle of nowhere if I like! With C4, I don't think I'll have that luxury.

Well as long as you have a phone with data you can play C4 on that anytime.

It will probably be best to play on wi-fi connections in the long run. Chances are the game will use a lot of data, so unless you have unlimited data on your device you may want to avoid it.

i don't mind it being online all the time since i don't move from my computer desk anyway so it doesn't matter to me

So I'm guessing there will be friends list and such..? I wonder if they will add a feature where you can chat with your friends...perhaps not. But who knows?

I think the chat and friends list features would be nice; they sure were (to me at least) in DS.

I was kind of looking forward to being able to play C4 in the middle of nowhere. I think the reason that people get games on their iOS devices is so they can take them places - their phones are much more portable than their laptops. I really hope that 3G connections will work, at the least. But, like generalflame said, that could end up being a problem data-wise...

At this point I just hope that the social features will be worth having to have a constant connection.

Is there such a thing as a "limited data" plan? I've always had unlimited data on my mobile devices.

In Korea my basic iPhone plan even includes unlimited personal wifi hospot, so I can connect my laptop and iPad to internet anywhere for free.

Yeeeaaah, I have a limit of 300 mb a month. I really can't afford to pay the $100+ it would cost for unlimited data.

My iPhone plan is $48/mo. for unlimited data including mobile hotspot. Maybe I shouldn't move back to the States.

I have unlimited data for less than Rascii. I think a new provider is needed to solve that problem.

Yeah, I suggest a new provider.

The main problem with 3G is that older models of some iOS devices, like iPads and iPod Touches, can't use 3G. Therefore, no middle-of-nowhere playing. [nblank]

Unless you can turn your phone into a mobile hotspot and connect to it's wifi network. Then it works anywhere.
