So, I don't have C1 anymore, but I found some old sprites from that game, and tried opening them with the SpriteBuilder, v. 1.30.
Most of the images in that .spr turned out black (or sometimes dark red), with only a few of the images' pixels in them. I know that's not what they were supposed to look like, and, since it's supposed to be able to handle .spr files, does anyone know what can be wrong here? |

I believe the issue is that SpriteBuilder is designed to only open .c16 and .s16 files, where the sprite files in Creatures 1 are in the .spr format. I use the One Stop Sprite Workshop, which can be downloaded from Gameware Development (listed as SpriteShop.zip in the list). It's capable of reading C1 and C2 files: Just make sure you choose the correct format when searching and opening them. Hope this helps!

That is correct, SpriteBuilder doesn't work for the C1 sprite format... I use BobCOB's Sprite Editor for C1 sprites.

Aren't C1 Sprites the same as C2? It works for C2.

I would love to use BoBCoB's Sprite Editor, but it stopped working for me on Windows 7 years ago. I've tried many things, but fortunately the One Stop Sprite Workshop works for me! You can find links to download BoBCoB over at the Creatures Wiki. Either program is a great option!

That's good to know. My new computer uses Windows 7, so I'll definitely want to give it a spin.

Awesome. OneStopSpriteWorkshop works nicely, and lets me save .spr files over to C2 format, which I can open in Spritebuilder.
Thanks a bunch! |
