Making Creatures Sterile

Is there a way to render male creatures sterile? I've heard that you can do it using Antigens but I'd rather not use risky methods like injecting creatures with disease. I know there are chemicals to keep female creatures from getting pregnant, but I'm not aware of any agents or chemicals to keep males from breeding.

Thanks in advance!

Which game is this in reference to? It's not exactly what you're looking for, but Amaikokonut's Population Control Options allow you to set various parameters for making Creatures infertile. Something tells me I came across a CAOS command for keeping individual Norns infertile at one point, but I tend to imagine things!

Possibly monitor their testosterone levels, as well as their libido lowerer chemical? Reproduction - The Genes goes into more depth.

It's for Creatures 3. I probably should've mentioned that. XD

Jessica, I'm using the Population Control Options by Amaikokonut but I'm trying to make a specific norn infertile so that I don't have to separate him from the others.

Malkin, this is helpful! I'm going to see if libido lowerer helps.

I'd like a more permanent solution but thanks for the help! :D

Libido lowerer will only take away his desire to mate, not his fertility, so a particularly determined female could still have her wily ways with your 'sterile' male...

That might be a problem, then. :/ I've already got a couple of determined females and I can't find anything in the CAOS menu to make him infertile.

I actually have an agent--which I finished and tested (with Malkin's help!) but never formally released--that was meant to prevent Creatures from breeding. It's called the Norn-a-Neuter; it floats above a Norn's head and prevents them from breeding. Most of the time. Like real contraceptives, occasionally it doesn't work if the Norn in question is especially... virile. Just keep the Norn away from any aphrodisiacs and it should work fine. :)

It's technically for DS rather than C3, but if you're running DS or a docked world, maybe it will fit the bill. You can download it here.

As I recall, the Norn-a-Neuter tended to work better when placed on males than when placed on females, but we did test it by hurling as many aphrodisiacs as possible into the mix. It's also not a good idea to place the Norn-a-Neuter on females while they're pregnant. It's not 100% effective, but the effects are reversible. Having that flexibility built in (as opposed to killing the gonads with heavy metals or antigens) is worth the occasional unplanned pregnancy.

Thank you both so much!

(Malkin, I got your PM. I don't know a lot about CAOS yet but everything I read is very helpful!)

I'll have to give this agent a try but I agree, it's much better to have a small chance of getting babies than trying to kill the gonads outright.

I've tried the antigen route with some experimental norns. If you start too early, you end up killing the norn first and there's no way to avoid spine or constitutive drive maintenance damage.

Oh, I have no doubt. But I'm concerned with neutering an existing creature. Unless you can edit existing creatures?

In any case, I can't open genetics files from World folders in Gene Editor anyway.

You can turn off the reproductive faculty with "SOUL" command. "MANN SOUL" gives a list of the faculties and numbers.

That's what the Norn-a-Neuter does. As it turns out, toggling SOUL alone isn't entirely effective when other influences are also at work--give a SOUL-neutered Norn access to the Cupid's Lyre, for instance, and they may still mate. Go figure.

I've actually tried SOUL at Malkin's suggestion but I don't know how to use it. I've tried, don't get me wrong, but I haven't the foggiest what I'm doing and it spits an error every time I try.

Still, if Norn-a-Neuter does the same thing, I'll just use that instead.

Thanks so much for the help, everyone!
