It seems that I have run across an error that I can't make heads or tails of, besides appearing to have something to do with the breeding aspect since it only happens when my breedable grendels kisspop. Here are the details of my setup: I'm running the Gog version of Albia Years on Windows 7, it's patched up to allow third party stuff to work, and I'm using Slink's Grendel World.
The error I'm getting is this:
A macro script contains a syntax error and will be aborted!
Token: f,en Type: Instruction. Owning obj: 04 02 01
Portion of script: tl 4 1 0 lt 12,f,endi,stim writ targ 0 0 0 0 45 ~
What does any of that mean and how can I fix it? After the dismal failure at looking for it myself, I'm stumped and hope that there's someone around here who can help with that. I don't want to resort to uninstalling and reinstalling just yet even though I have everything that I need for it backed up.
So... Any bright minds care to take a crack at it? ![[nquestion] [nquestion]](/images/smilies/emot_question.gif)

Additional, since it won't allow me to edit my original post:
I have noticed something odd about that error string, the symbol at the very end of it changes every time that it appears. This problem has been consistent no matter where I have downloaded Grendel World from. The files are in the right places, for a non-customized install, so I am still absolutely stumped about why I'm getting it.

There's something wrong with the scripts that govern male grendels in that world. Is this your first foray into other worlds?

I could be wrong (or just very rusty) but I don't recall needing to change anything about my worlds in order to make my Grendels breedable. All I use is the Grendel Friendly COB. With my very friendly Grendels, Achren and Ellidyr, I had Grendel eggs popping up all over the place!
I wonder if that COB achieves the same effect as having Slink's Grendel World?

Malkin: Using or editing? I have pretty much close to nil on the editing part for Creatures, but really would like to learn how, and I typically use either Terra Nornia or the original Albia. Though in the past I rarely ever had more than one grendel because the game usually turned finicky when I did. That's pretty much how backing things up just in case my world breaks became second-nature. Considering the great amount of time between back when I was a kid and now I figured it'd be a good time to try my hand at new worlds (new to me, anyway) and having more than one grendel about. At just about this point I'm starting to see why there are a few grendel-related COBs floating around out there. Thanks for that link, I'm inclined to believe that I more than likely missed it.
Jessica: That would be something to test out, wouldn't it? I believe after some sleep, if and when the Insomnia Fairy would let up, I'll throw myself at it and see what I get. At the moment I really have nothing better to do until payday and need something besides a silly MMO to occupy my downtime.

I have often had similar script errors in C2. In my case these were usually coming from the creatures themselves, I got no idea what the actual cause is, but in my case i just downloaded different creatures from other websites and the problem disappeared. Not sure if it is similar in your case, but maybe worth a shot to kick all creatures and download some Grendels from other websites. If the breeds require special sprites then make sure you also have these. But for me it instantly crashed everything when i tried to import a creature that i didn't have all sprites for.

After a few days of being too busy to work on this problem I had finally gotten around to figuring it out. Once I disproved the notion that the cause had been a breed (I only had the updated classic sprites and all the breeds were genetic and capable of breeding) I went on to looking at my massive collection of COBS thinking that maybe I had installed something that I shouldn't have. During my testing I found that I was partially correct in my assumption. It was a COB, but it was one that I didn't recall injecting because it wouldn't have been necessary. The COB in question was Grendel Friendly. What stumped me about that for a little bit was how it had gotten injected in the first place. Well, I was stumped until after a bathroom break, when I came back to the laptop that I play Creatures on and happened to catch my younger brothers poking through the COBs injector. Thank goodness that was all that they were doing and had done while I was otherwise preoccupied and couldn't take the thing with me!
So, I believe it is safe to say that Grendel Friendly and Slink's Grendel World appear to work almost the same; just don't try to mix the two. Or leave your game unattended while there are kids nearby who tend to discard the request/order "Do Not Touch." ![[nlaugh] [nlaugh]](/images/smilies/emot_laugh.gif)
