Okay, so I've found that half the time, when I download metarooms/breeds/cobs it comes up with a RAR file, instead of a AGENTS file. And I've tried to simply put it in the My Agents folder, but it never seems to work unless it's a AGENTS file. Is there a secret to making it work?
Thanks! |

What is it you're trying to install, and did you extract the .RAR files using the WinRAR program first? It works in pretty much the same way as unzipping files using Winzip, or Windows' built-in .zip file extractor. |

As Laura says, once you've installed WinRAR you'll be able to open the .rar file and drag or extract the contents onto your Desktop; from there you can then move them into the right directories.

I just checked the WinRAR site, and apparently, it's now a paid program. There is a trial version you can use, but I'm guessing that it may be time-limited or number-of-uses-limited.
To open RAR files, I use 7-Zip (7-zip.org). It's free, it's open source, and it can open RAR, ZIP, and a lot of others. Hope that helps. |

The free version of WinRAR is fine to use; although it's a trial version you can still use it indefinitely, even after it tells you the trial period is up. The 7-Zip program BritCanuck suggested is also good though! |

Yep... all it means is that after a month or something, a little message will appear when you start WinRAR reminding you that you haven't registered. But it still works normally and everything... I've been using the same trial version for four or five years with no problems.
