Creatures 3 Genetics Kit problem

When I try and lay an egg in Docking Station the error

appears. An egg still appears ingame but when it hatches it is always the same norn.
I have tried with a docked and undocked world however on regular c3 the message appears and then after it says "initial connection failed" and i do have the remastered patch.

I'm not entirely sure about the problem you posted about: I have an error message pop up whenever I try to lay an egg from the Genetics Kit, but it always works properly. Hopefully someone with knowledge of the CAOS codes can help you out some more!

that caos code is actually meant to appear if you read the manual it says it will

It is always an astro norn no matter what I change I tried making it a Grendel but it was still an astro norm when it hatched they all have different monikers after they hatch though

The 'error' is actually the code that the game uses to make a new egg - always from the "dave" genome (that's why they all look the same).

Have you tried using Egg Maker? If you remember to keep the names of your genomes short, I find it's much more user-friendly than the Genetics Kit for this stuff.

I did try egg maker however I couldn't figure out where to save the genome.
And also may I ask why does it always load dave instead of the one I'm editing?

Are you running Creatures Exodus?

'dave' must be a default - can you try putting in the name of your genome where 'dave' is?

I am running creatures exodus from GOG.com and what do you mean by put the name where "dave" is? I can't edit it it is in a little box that pops up I can't even copy paste it so I had to manually write it in the post.

Try saving your genomes in

C:\Program Files (x86)\Gameware Development\Creatures Exodus\Docking Station\Genetics

and that should help the Egg Maker recognise them.

If not, there's an analogous folder in My Documents that's worth a try.

I was hoping the code was something you could copypaste and then enter into the game, but that's obviously not the case.

Should I create That directory since it doesn't already exist? However typing dave into the egg maker will spawn an egg that hatched a norn like from the genetics kit.
I have two genetics files that contain the genome dave however typing the other genomes in either of those files doesn't work.

If it doesn't already exist, don't create it. Does it not work because of the length of the other genomes' names? Try renaming your target genome to something shorter than 9 letters.

Ok I made a genome called bob and put it In c:\ program files(x86)\gog\exodus\dockingstation\gentics and it didn't work so I put it in mydocuments\creatures\dockingstation\genetics and when I typed bob in game it worked (using ds egg maker) although it didn't work with the others in the folder except dave and bob,presumably because there name Is too long.
